Actually, it's not about the pope or religion at all. When asked what it meant in an interview, Dani responded with this:
"You're aware of the phrase to gild a lily? (To unnecessarily decorate something that is already beautiful - Terminology Ed) Well this song is about a person who looks OK on the outside but is ugly and twisted on the inside. It demanded an extreme title because it was an extreme song. To Gild A Lily or Gilded Lily just wouldn't have done. It's about someone who I know who is wrapped up in the jewellery, make-up and furs, but inside they are just bitter, twisted and angry."
Sorry kiddies, but unless Dani knows the Pope, I don't think it's about him. I actually do think it's just about some bitch Dani knows. |

I think these are the most beautiful dark lyrics ever written in my opinion. I think Devil's whore is just a nickname for a vampire, and instead of having sex with people they kill for him (the Devil). So, along with what others said he meets a beautiful woman, she turns out to be a vampire... It's not 100% clear if they fuck in the forest, but they obviously do something, and it IS clear that she bites him and drinks his blood, which is of course very sexy to this guy and could be LIKE sex to them. After their first meeting he must find her again, and when he does she takes more of his "red roses" aka blood. And I'm not quite sure if he's turned into a vampire or just dies. Because "grieving the loss of life" could be his mortal life and he's now a vampire. But it could be that she just killed him. |

Yeah, above meanings were correct. From Dani himself: "Concerns itself with two sinners reflecting on their lives of decadence and pomp as they share their last drink on the very verge of the abyss. This song was inspired by a night of guilt and nostalgia at everything that has befallen over the last six to seven years (in fact i felt a little at sixes and sevens musing over all the events...) and attributing the success to the blame of devilish intervention as in the infamous Goethe story where Faust sells his soul to the Devil in return for a life of riches and splendour."

Omg I love this song. I'm listening to it now. SUCH GOOD LYRICS and it sounds awesome. Sexiest line is APPEASE THE BEAST! ON SPATTERED SHEETS! Dyed unearthly red as sobriety weeps.....sounds bloody!
I think the best part though, apart from "dusk and her embrace!!!" is "Beneath the stars thy flesh bedevils me" and then her singing "Beneath the stars taste the death in me!" "Bequeath to me thy fiery kiss to sever thin morality!!!!" What sexy vampiric lyrics. |

Okay, so I'm not a big fan of wanting to attack Heaven, but this song...is so cool lol. The beginning is fucking awesome. I love the "Rise, ablaze..." part, and it's kind of slow and then really high pitched when he screams NASCENT AEONS CONFER!! and I love when it gets fast at "Stormchoirs gather..." but then it kind of goes downhill after "...a world upon it's KNEEEEEEEES!" |

Probably one of the best written songs about vampires in my opinion. Not that hard to figure out, his lover is dead, but one night she returns to him as a vampire and makes him into one as well. It's pretty obvious to tell that they're vampires because eternal life, blood, hiding from the day, and taking prey are all mentioned. Favorite line is probably "As phantoms we have fled the basilisk of day / To rise as phoenix taloned, nightly taking prey" Oh and the best written part is from "Twelfth moon arose..." to "...and thus, we shall cheat death"

SUCCULENT, SUCCUBUS! I love the lyrics in this song, they're probably the most creative ones about sex I've ever read. A lot of the metaphors are kind of Christian-ish, which is interesting.. lol.
Favorite lines: "Writhing like a viper deep inside her Eden, forbidden to eat"
"Christ-like, whipped and weak, painted nails driven through the meak"
"Thou art my seventh angel squirming 'neath the forked tongue of the beast" (this line is sexy hehe)
"Gorge upon my seed, starved Persephone!"
and last but not least, "Whilst the world outside (a wood of suicide) would die for this release, our slow orgasmic fuses greet..."

Excellent lyrics! It's so interesting to see this story told from a different point of view - evil's pov. Now Moses and God are supposed to look like the bad guys, which of course Satan would see them as. I'm guessing that "And Hell for those that dwelt Beneath a Pharaoh's granite hand" is referring to the slaves. Funny how there's hardly any mention of the evils the pharaoh did to the slaves, and yet Moses is soooo evil for trying to free them. And we're supposed to feel sorry for the pharaoh when his firstborn child dies. What about all the people that died because of him? BUT we must realize that this is what happens when it's told from Satan's pov. A failing attempt in making the good side look evil.
But the lyrics are very well written. I think my favorite line is "Thenceforth the Nile reddened as if Set stretched his hand to beset the damned" I love the way Dani tells of each plague that happened. Very interesting song! |

Um, kind of stupid how he started cursing God just because some "Christians" killed his lover or whatever. Obviously they weren't real Christians if they would do such a thing, and so God nor Jesus have nothing to do with the loss of his love, do they? At least these lyrics were written with some effort though, as opposed to Slayer or something. The lyrics in this song are probably among my least favorite written by Dani. Oh and their whole little motto, "Do what thou wilt".... too bad Dani would freak out if a pedophile did what he wanted near his daughter. |
