the reason there are few comments on this song is ,i think, it used to be called 'big ideas'. i heard this version whrn i saw them in blackpool and was blown away as we all were. it's quite a sexy sound, almost funk bassline. the song i always thought was about generaly being told that whatever your dreams are they wont happen, like when you see a careers adviser and she tells you you can't be what you want cos your a dreamer. |

it seems that this song is about mentral illness, i have been swayed by these comments above. 'i have no idea what im talking about' is the ill person who cant understand but also a humorous line i think said by thom to the listener, like in the smiths style. paranoia and mental illness, this is the 21 st century, has the light gone out for you? all convey an image of hopelessness fromthe narator, done better than attempts on hailtothetheif i reckon. |

ok, first i think the line is 'born and raised across the street, in algebra.' pretty sure, think i read it on official record website. it's what i hear anyway if i'm wrong, fair enough. let me know, sure you will. the opening two lines i always think of w bush and iraq etc. never really regarded it as a song about using up resources, which is stupid as most of his songs are now about that. and warming the planet. A lot of recent comments! I find that happy. For me, waiting at train stations always came into my head with this song, as well as endless motorways. Emptiest of feelings as our transport system has been so underfunded by a government who give less shits about the poor that have to use it. I think they might mean it as a touring commentry of never stopping moving, dissapointed people being the fans(his perception anyway!)? The last verse is my best piece of music perfection ever.
