I know Alk3 didn't write this song, but it seems almost along the same lines as Hell Yes, where he abandons the "light side" and sides with evil. "In the velvet darkness, Of the blackest night, Burning bright, There's a guiding star. No matter what or who you are. Similar type of thought. |

| Man, I don't have TV, and don't listen to the radio. I got started on Alk3 when a friend told me about them, and I downloaded some random songs. I got about 20 of them (including this one) and they all rock. Now it's a year later and I've bought some CD's. In the first batch I got, I found some great fucking songs in Cringe, Stupid Kid, If We Never Go Inside, and Jaked On Green Beers. When you don't know the history and you don't know that Alk3 "sold out" all you hear is the music, and all you realize is that this band kicks ass. | |

This is a song about (like many people have said) trying to have faith in god, but then turning to "the devil." I see the devil representing one's own desire to do what you truly want to. This is a knock on religion, as Alk3 is saying you can't do what you really want to. "They said everything would work out just fine I just went crazy But I’m better now having a good time Being selfish, and drunken, and vulgar, and lazy " This could be semi-sarcastic, but Alkaline Trio has always been "dark-side" themed and probably expresses some real feeling. As for you people who think this is about a girl, you don't try to have to make every song about "relationships." Thank god there is more to write songs about than that. |
