| "What is and what never should be"... What a line. I couild derive so many different meanings to that line in itself, let alone the whole song. What if "what is" and "what never should be" are the same thing? Something is going on, but it shouldn't be happening; such as a forbidden love like leonie mentioned earlier making reference to Maureen's sister. | |

I think that it's important not only to interpret the song by it's words, but by the instruments as well. When the guitar comes in before "I need a fix ‘cause I’m going down. Down to the bits that I left uptown. I need a fix ‘cause I’m going down. " It sounds like someone's life is spinning out of control. This could be interpreted in many different ways, and I think that's the point. That's why the song is so genious, one can interpret it their own way and apply it to their own life. Each person can derive a different meaning of the song, and that's OK. |
