Barenaked Ladies – Maybe You're Right Lyrics 19 years ago
Definitely a political song. "Over-simplified" and "lies we bought" sounds like a complaint regarding the US administration's handling of the war in the Middle East. The atmosphere in the nation is very much like, agree or shut up. This person is wanting to speak out, to recognize the "crimes" but he understands the futility of it. He's hurt that people can discuss their "reservations" or debate "accusations." He's wondering what's the point since no one is listening. So he is half-heartedly wonder if he should live "his whole life in silence insead." He wants to speak out, to open a forum for discussion. It clearly reads, "Maybe you're right, but I don't think so." As if saying, I don't agree with you but atleast address my concerns if you think what you're doing is right.

Barenaked Ladies – When I Fall Lyrics 19 years ago
Ed talked about writing this song in Episode 11 of the BNL podcast. Basically, the idea (a window-washer afraid of heights) came from a discussion with a friend who was helping him write more. Ed says "for me the song is able being selfless in the name of your friends or family." The character in this song is deathly afraid of heights but needs to provide for his family. He's certain that it'll be the death of him (no "if I fall" but "when I fall.) The song is about his fear as he's up there.

Barenaked Ladies – Just A Toy Lyrics 19 years ago
Caffeen is right. BNL revealed in their podcast that the Pinocchio story was the inspiration for this song. I'm sure many people can relate it to their own relationships with parents who showered attention on other siblings, but we've got Geppetto to thank for this masterpiece.

Barenaked Ladies – Second Best Lyrics 19 years ago
Considering that E2E has other politically themed songs, the "Canadian perspective" interpretation is very sound. No doubt listeners may relate to it in more abstract ways, but the war is very likely the inspiration.
