Um, okay? WTF is this about "Why would Trent write a George Bush song" THTF was an anti-Bush song, Trent DOES NOT like G.B. obviously, so to say that Trent wouldn't write an anti-Bush song is STUPID! I definatly think this song is about Trent's expieriance in rehab. I remember in an interview he was talking about being "Locked in a room to shake and throw up". He was there for a while. I also think the thing about anti-depressants is a good theory also because then I remember him talking about how apathetic he got to his work when he was on them for a while. He didn't care when the work got done or the quality, unlike normal anal/perfectionist/workaholic Trent. |

All of you who have heard the song and are talking shit about it havent even heard the real version so you all can just throw yourselves into a wood chipper. The version you heard was stolen from the the video shoot in California and it wasnt the finished version, the most you could have heard of the REAL version only lasts about 20 sec. from the NIN "With Teeth" teaser. Goddamn all of you assfuckers Trent worked DAMN hard on the album and it took like what? 5 years to finish? None of you can write songs like him, NONE OF YOU. So just shut your faces. I quote the goddamn Bambi movie "If you cant say something nice, don't say anything at all!" that is unless you are defending Trent Reznor, the you can say whatever the fuck you want!!!

John hated this song. It took over 40 hours to record because paul was so fucking picky and couldn't come up with an intro. So John walked over to the piano hammerd out some notes on it and they kept that as the intro. This song was recently named the worst song ever in a poll taken by the BBC. I dont really like this song either, I could understand why John hated the song as well. Just imagine listening to this song for 40 hours straight!!! |

Its about giving up and walking into the ocean and drownding. It could work with giving up on anything or anyone actually, just put yourself in the posistion of the narorrator. It really brings chills up the spine, I love that feeling. I love Trent's writing ability, I envy him for it. |

I didnt mind the video, wasnt the greatest, and even Trent says the video sucks. Its actually a pretty confusing video. Whats up with that fake Connie Chung in the beggining? No never mind this video does suck. I like it when the NIN videos deal with stuff that they should, like toilets and monkey crucifictions. mmmmm that "The Perfect Drug" video is nothing short of perfection. Let's hear it for Trent for having some kick ass videos! |

But you have to still give Reznor props for actually writing the song. It is a fucking awesome song. This song is obviously about self mutilation, whether it be heroin or just cutting. But when I heard it i thought it was kind of like the guy was realizing what was really going on around him while watching himself bleed or having a bad high or something like that. When he says "What Have I become? My sweetest friend" i think its like he is realising that he has become so bitter that he has chased everyone away even though they might have tried to help him. And with the line "i hurt myself today, to see if i still feel" i feel he means that his mind and soul has such an overbearing pain that he wanted to see if his body still worked and if he could feel pain physically.
All the meanings above have really made sense and made me look at the song differently. I never thought there was this many smart people in the world! |
