| Van Morrison – Summertime In England Lyrics | 4 years ago |
| I think the lyrics are deliberately ambiguous so he could be talking about his partner or Jesus. He sings about the red robe being worn down through the ages - clearly not about a partner. I always take the song about meeting Jesus in the countryside - "can you feel the light". \nCommon One i take to be about Jesus - he\'s also known as the son of man - clearly an ordinary man with nothing amazing to look at (hence common one) yet spiritually eternally divine. | |

the meaning is very simple. "all that glitters is gold - and she's buying a stairway to heaven" There's a lady who's fell into the 'taking heroin is cool' lie - she'll die from her addiction - hence she's buying (heroin) and it'll kill her (stairway to heaven). "sometimes words have two meanings" - heroin can mean the drug and heroine can be a heroic lady. two meanings. lady with white light - a metaphor for good, or Mother Mary if you will. "your head is humming ... piper's calling you to join him" - the craving for the drug is starting up again. The rest of the song is about changing your ways and there's still hope if you're in the same situation as this drug addict. |
