| Toad the Wet Sprocket – Pray Your Gods Lyrics

On one hand, I could see the protagonist as Jesus, telling people they can hold on to their cruel gods (or old testament eye for an eye type thinking) or they can embrace the new way, by relating to god through love and not fear. On the other hand, it almost feels like a plea for the listener to give up their religion, to follow what is in their heart and just love, as opposed to worrying about what's right or wrong or what the gods think |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics
| 21 years ago

I think this song is about one person (not the singer) changing in a relationship, and the singer doesn't, and that splits them up. He says "most people were overjoyed", most of their friends were happy to see change, and wanted to hang out with them and experience it. But to the singer it was "more like a moat", he felt the changes didn't include him, and now he is excluded from the girl's life. The rhythm of his footsteps (the usual things they did, him visiting her) can no longer happen, because her world has changed, and now they are seperated from each other, the changes have created islands (isolation) where no islands should go. |

| Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics

I don't think the "White Houses are a metaphor" the whole song is about getting involved with a group of friends during summer. They probably stayed in white houses that summer. The song is beautiful and very profound, but it isn't couched in metaphors or imagery, it's just a story. |

I always heard his dad was a sniper; he'd 'roost' somewhere with concealment and snipe the enemy. He'd often have to escape while several viet cong were trying to kill him, "come to snuff the rooster". |

| Chevelle – Mia Lyrics

I would say Chevelle is moving away from a tool-esque sound, but anyone who's seen the video for this song might certainly think their video style is similar. The video for MIA immediately reminded me of the videos for "Sober" and "Prison Sex". But hey, Chevelle is talented, and if you're going to make a video in the style of another band, at least they chose a good band to copy from. |

| A Perfect Circle – Gravity Lyrics
|
|
Like so many songs on this album, this deals with addiction and recovery. The singer is "high" abnormally (i.e. by use of drugs) and finally decides to give up. They surrender their "high" to gravity (natural forces, the natural state of emotion), which pulls them down (they come down from their high). Now, the singer asks someone to "help me survive the bottom" i.e. get through the most horrible part of withdrawl. He needs them so he won't "snare another pill" i.e. relapse. In the end, he hopes to lifted "back up to the sun", meaning he hopes to feel euphoric again, but not by chemicals, not the abnormal "high". |
