I want to talk about the title, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence". I think the cd is everything he wanted to say to Katie Tiger, but couldn't speak the words at the time. At the end of the cd, the hidden song is speaking directly at her. Him saying "now i have you where i want you; i know that you are listening; this is my chance to tell you everything; my chance to tell you i love you; but i've waited too long; and now the records over" meaning after all of the shit he said, he still loves her, but it's too late and doesn't matter. Just my opinion. |

This song is simply about Maynard's relationship with his son, Devo. He doesn't want him to grow up and experience the "dangerous" world for himself. He wants to keep him "safe and ignorant". Well actually, that would be the simple meaning. But Maynards lyrics are so vague that they could be interpreted any number of ways. |

| *It's just an idea, but i don't think maynard has any real meanings behind his lyrics. If you take the original content of this song off of 13th Step, it's about his son, Devo. And now he chooses to put it on a political album and throw a meaning of war behind it. I believe he's just being obscure and vague in his lyrics, so they can be interpreted in any way; which isn't necissarilly a bad thing. He can touch base with a lot more fans this way, and sell more records. | |

I believe the song is about drug addiction. As a matter of fact, i think the entire album is sort of a third persons view of a destructive, drug addicted friend. I won't go into detail about every song; if you relate the topic to them, you can figure out themes on your own. But it all wraps up with the song 'Gravity' and the lyric "i choose to live", meaning that he (maynard) chooses to avoid the self destructive drug life. Or i could be completely wrong. I dunno, it's just what i think. |
