I never saw this as a simple story about the guy (Murphy) falling for the barmaid (Darcy). The barmaid symbolizes alcohol. Murphy starts drinking at a young age and he develops a problem with it. Drinking gets the best of him for a long time but he finally gets a grip on it and gets his problem under control. |

This is actually the Boston College fight song. When I first started listening to the Dropkick Murphys, I was dating a girl who was going to BC. She recognized it right away. |
