A loved one's funeral. That's what I read out of it. Some obvious references early in the song. A line of black cars like a funeral procession, tossing flowers in with the casket, people turning away when they look at the body... The protagonist goes into deep despair after losing a loved one and wants to shut himself off from the world. |

I sincerely hope it's not about heroin... Jack Wilson, Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star shortstop and avid anti-drug "activist" uses it as his batting intro and has the nickname, "Jumping Jack Flash." I love the song, the intro is one of my all time favorites regardless. |

Definitely one of the more straightforward lyrical songs by the anything but normal Isaac Brock. Just kinda weird/ironic/sad that the group's biggest hit is about the least Modest Mouse song they've done...that doesn't hide the fact that it's also one of my favorites, it's lyrics just don't match-up at all with the older stuff. Basically it means some days everything is alright. Nothing bad can happen, and even if it does don't let it phase you. Or something like that, knowing Modest Mouse I may have completely missed the point. |
