To logan55 Duane is Duane Peters of The US Bombs, and Duane Peters and the Huns. Very good bands, but very old guys, who are still together and still touring. Offsprng588way off here when saying skaters killed punk; you were 16 at the time of your post so I am going to assume you do not own any vinyl. So if you own the Operation Ivy Hectic CD, then in the liner notes there is a picture of Lint, with his hand against a fence and he is holding a skateboard (Lint is none other than Tim Armstrong of Rancid). Along with the fact that Duane Peters has been playing punk since before you were born he has also been doing something else, Skateboarding. He is considered one of the first professional skateboarders. So skateboarding is just as much part of the punk scene as kids claiming to be more punk than the next guy. And Bumdart, sorry dude, but saying that Fat Mike is against Christian Punk is kind of an error, seeing as Fat Wreck Chords released the Renaissance E.P. by none other than the band your “looking at” MXPX. Mike Herrera said upon releasing on Fat that “We've been friends with Fat Mike for a while after meeting him on the 1998 Warped Tour and we started talking about being on the Fat Wreck Chords singles club.” Although Fat doesn’t support Christianity, when asked about the release Fat Mike said “We got Jews, Japs, Krauts, Queers, Catholics, Capes, Canucks, Muslims, and morons on the label. Why not Christians?” But I think the point of this song is the fact that punk is so available, its everywhere you can buy it in the malls, you can see a collection of bands tour the us, hence the Warped Tour, its just the simple fact that the danger isn’t there anymore. You can’t interact with bands, you can’t get to loud, and no moshing or stage diving policy a lot of venues have. Just pogo and enjoy the show where as Fat Mike enjoyed the early days of DIY, and being from California they experienced early hardcore bands, and amazing venues up and down the coast to which a lot where shutdown, but a few remain i.e. 294 Gilman St. Its just a lot different know then it was back then, this is not from me seeing as I’m only 22 but I have been going to shows for over a decade, and have met quite a few people who have been doing this for a while. |
