is it just me, or does the (inferior) Taking Back Sunday cover have the lyrics "I want to be masochistic/I want to be a sadistic" instead of the original words? Did they get it wrong, or is it just the odd vocals? |

| Silversun Pickups – Well Thought Out Twinkles Lyrics
| 19 years ago

When I was listening to this in the car, I noticed that on the side of the road, a house had been razed to the ground, leaving only charred wood and broken bits of roofing.
I took this in right as the singer exclaimed, "Who are we/To promise we'll be leaving shortly?"
This actually changed the meaning of the song completely for me--imagining a family standing in front of their destroyed home, burned down in an electrical fire ("what was that light", etc.) by accident ("what have you done"), and, as they stare, they feel that their life is over, and try to remember the past ("smile, go inside")--but they still have to make it somehow. "Who are we to promise we'll be leaving shortly?" |

I thought it was another "Rock Against Bush" song at first. When I heard the verse with "Only those who accept/Will find that acceptance in return" it sounded exactly like the average criticism of the president (for example, in the quoted lyric, the way that he promotes Christian values but seems to most people to be against the Muslim faith.) |

Just wondering, is the part where he says "Yes, yes, yes, guess who's on third/Lupe still here like Lupin the Third" actually a reference to the classic anime character? |

And, besides, Japanese songs usually tend to focus on the sound, not the lyrics.
If you want proof, listen to the instrumental version of this song on the FLCL soundtrack. It's friggin awesome. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics

The "two-headed boy" is Anakin Skywalker:
"Placing fingers through the notches in your spine" is what happened to him when he was given cybernetic limbs, "catching signals in the dark" is a reference to the constant pull that the dark side of the Force had on him.
And, of course, the "lover who's floating and choking with hands across her face" is Padme, who Anakin nearly killed when he force-choked her in rage on Mustafar in Episode III. |

I actually thought that the "I'm two quarters and a heart down" lyric was a Legend of Zelda reference.
But I'm just weird that way. |

On a completely random note, this song was once played during the end credits of the old MTV show "Daria", just like the other Cake song "Daria", and probably a few other Cake songs I haven't caught yet.
...Oh, and "Never There" was briefly played during an early episode. |

| Beck – E-Pro Lyrics

This is probably my favorite Beck song ever... alright, top 10 at least.
But I heard "kickin' the DOOR with my boots" and "Don't forget to pick up what you SOW", the latter of which is sort of Biblical. |

To quote Beck from his special appearance on Futurama:
"See, Bender, you have you write about what you feel. Like, when I wrote Devil's Haircut, I was feeling... wait... What is that song about?" |

This might have made a good theme song for the aforementioned cartoon series, now being shown on nighttime cable network The N. |

Actually, the children created the robots, and they control the robots. Therefore, the CHILDREN are taking over the world.
Pretty appropriate for TMBG's "children's album", isn't it? |

I love this song. From the beginning to the end, with the despair, the rhythm, and the fantastic lyrics ('And the truth is we don't know anything"), this song is just about perfect. |

This is a great song. It's weird, because the entire song seems to be just a buildup to that sonic explosion that is the beginning of the chorus. One of the only songs on the FLCL soundtrack that went mostly unedited, and one of the best songs on the CD, or any CD for that matter. |

I dunno, maybe it's about a bunch of people that go riding on a meteor...? Like a spider, lobster, and a hamster! In fact... It could be a kind of Noah's ARk situation...
Uh-oh, getting too interpretive. It's just a cool song to listen to. |

I always thought that it was about bad music, personally.
This is a strange song, because at first it sounds very J-poppish (they even seem to intentionally put emphasis on the words "HAPPY" ond "OKAY".)Once you learn the real meaning of the song, it's actually very bitter. |

This song is the paragon of bad translation, and it should be acclaimed for that alone.
If you actually want to squeeze any trace of meaning from the song, I would say it's about a guy who loves a girl, despite all his friends' warnings, but is sick of her temper and her being around him all the time. |

I also saw the video. I also believe that the boy's father died, but I interpret the video differently:
The boy is lonely, with no friends or neigbors, since he lives in a rural area. He tries to play with the srarecrow, the closest thing he can find to a companion, but he just knocks the inanimate scarecrow onto the ground. With the scarecrow fallen, crows start to return, including an injured crow played by the lead singer (note the costume). The boy nurses tries to nurse him back to health, putting him in a shoebox and showing him to his mother, who is disgusted by the sick bird and tries to make him get rid of it. He runs back to the cornfield and goes to sleep. IN the morning he wakes up to find the crow alive and well, and they gleefully play with each other. He wakes up and realizews this was a dream, and sees that the crow has died, despite his efforts. he bries the crow, at which point the ghost of the crow starts to sing, along with the rest of the band, who are really other animals the boy kept as pets. |
