| Soulwax – Much Against Everyone's Advice Lyrics

one of my favourite songs. as far as i see, he's saying he's not caring enough for someone that he has feelings for (i conclude he has feelings because of the line: i sat alone with my thoughts... for you). which seems a contradiction, but in this case i guess it isn't, or well it is, but that's what the song's about. about trying your best and still seeming to do everything wrong. trying to be someone you want to be (living a lie that i cannot satisfy) but failing because you're just your own absentminded self that is going right in against all that should be (much against everyones advice). but this is just my fucked up opinion. :D let me know what you think. |

i like the interpretations that i've read, but what i miss in all of them is an explanation of the regular use of you instead of i.
it makes me think that the song might be not so much about his own feelings of hurt, but about the pain his loved one seems to have (the tragedies reside in you, the secret sides hide in you).
it makes me think that his loved one might have been hurt very much with love in the past (maybe with a previous relationship) and now does not dare to love again? this would also explain his description about the spaces in between us.
i could be wrong, i'm not certain about it at all, but this was my interpretation that still seems to fit. anyone an opinion on this matter? |

now about the lyrics: it must be about him being pulled down by someone. could be blamed, bullied or dumped... i can't really tell from the lyrics. can anyone? it however seems to me that he is distancing himself from his feelings, being another familiar punk "i don't care" i.o.w. "i try really hard not to care" theme :D. punk song #2, good title and punk rock song. i really like it! |

from the 'he's lying' point of view: she let him get away with it all the time ('these things they'll go away, 'years make everything allright''), but now this is the last time he will have to lie cause he's going away from her ('one last tender lie and then i'm out of this place). 'Something I wasn't sure of but I was in the middle of' could be about him being in love with someone else, but i'm not sure. |

to me it seems his girlfriend has been lying to him for a long time (i can't really tell from the lyrics if he's been lying or his girlfriend). but the chorus could be about the last time he will let her get away with it. 'you fall on me for anything you like' and 'years make everything allright' could be she trying to make it up to him. |

this song is about a boy regularly seeing a girl walking by. she is the one he thinks about when he's dreaming and fantasizing at night. he doesn't know her, but as she walks by she looks just perfect and that's all that matters.... |

also: 'how do you remember me? the one that made you laugh until you cried?' does she mean: did you only date my because you could have a good laugh with me or did i mean more to you?
to me lines like these sound as if she's critisising his superficial way of living. his life is all about having fun, but is there a place for true love and care? (hedonism = viewing the own pleasure as highest good)
'just because you feel good, does it make you right', makes perfectly sense... |

i can see where fading and ladyboygrrl are going, but i kinda miss the hedonism part in their explanations. skin tells about her ex-boy(/girl)friend: 'i see you feel no pain at all it seems", and 'does laughter still discover you', 'just because you feel good'. does she refer to the hedonistic way of life of het ex boy(/girl)friend? |

hmm.. i see it as the description of an impossible relationship. it isn't approved by the outside world, and the you-person is indoctrinated ('so black and white you see, it's all the lies you've heard', 'you're conscience has been sold'). because skin is a lesbian, i suppose it'a a lesbian relationship she's talking about. if you read it this way, it makes sense, doesn't it?
the i-character and you-character are lesbian, and can't have a relationship because it isn't although they |

even though i don't now exactly what the lyrics mean, i don't think they're meant to be ironic, as skunker suggests. first verses seem to suggest the i-person is angry on an ex-lover ('all those memories', 'now that it's over'), but then i don't understand how the last verse fits in. anyone suggestions? |

i agree with the explanation of the lyrics. i love the dual voices in the 'all those lonely night ....' part... and there's a cute little guitar part in there, too. and i love the screaming in this song, i scream along every time.... wheee!!! :) |

the panic attack view makes sense to me. i noticed every verse begins with describing the i-character being at some place (every verse has a different location) and then seeing bodies floating in the water. sounds to me like some kind of hallucination.... |

| Green Day – When I Come Around Lyrics

to me it seems the character feels his relationship (probably girlfriend, cause it says 'ditching me', but could be parents etc.) is choking, and for now he just needs to get a lot of freedom. when he's ready to have a tight relationship again he'll come around and let himself been found. so in the song he ask people not to be angry or say, but to just let him go his own way and trust him eventually everything will turn out fine. |

I don't agree with the looking-up theory. After-all, using the 'we''ll destroy this world for you" line to support this, the continuation "i know you want me to feel you pain" seems akward.
I see it this way: The character is in love with the you-person, which leaves him to be completely influenced ('we'll destroy this world for you') by this person and let him be harmed by the you-person ('you'll make us wanna die", 'games you play on me"). This pain is getting too much for him, causing the character to break up with the you-person (this is the only way out... right?). This is i guess what the chorus is about: he'll has to try and be neutral about the you-person again. This is the moment 'peace will arive'. And because when he's writing he loves this person so much, this situation seems to make him feel completely empty and meaningless ('and make us meaningless again').
Have you ever had the same experience? Being in love, knowing you should let it go, but on the other hand wanting to foster it, not letting the meaningless everyday life taking control (because without the other person life itself seems meaningless).
The lyrics and dark emotional Muse-sound me love this song and listen to it for a hundred times. |
