I've skimmed most of the suggestions for meanings here, and i didn't see anyone even hint at this: I believe that the song is NOT about unrequited love, but rather a long distance relationship, made possible by the same thing that allows us to share our views on this song, namely the internet. It fits the bill perfectly: The first verse is basically saying "if i could pick up and leave and be with you, I would" next verse means basically "I love you more than I can express in words" how many times have you felt the frustration of not being able to express something in text, like an IM or email? Third verse seems to mean that he is not sure how she feels about him and wishes he knew. Probably her too, because he says "we". The fourth verse, however, is more revealing "It is true what you said, I live like a hermit in my own head" implies that he isn't so forthcoming with details about himself, it sounds like he is ashamed of his station in life and doesn't want to tell her. Then we have "But when the sun shines again" which means "when we are together" and "I'll pull the curtains and blinds to let the light in" means "I'll tell you everything and anything about me" Lastly, we have the part that seems confusing. "Sorrow drips into your heart, through a pinhole" - the happiness in finding the one you love is marred by something... distance would fit the bill, both physical distance, and the fact that he is "a hermit in my own head"... not opening up to her. "Just like a faucet that leaks, and there is comfort in the sound" -There is comfort in sorrow, just like the sound of a faucet leaking should be annoying, but if you've been around it for a long time it sounds like home. unfortunately many of the internet generation have had prolonged and/or numerous loves over the internet, and those people all know very well the sorrow of having little hope of ever seeing your love in person. "But while you debate half empty or half full, it slowly rises, your love is gonna drown" -The debate is obviously whether or not the relationship is worth the pain, I think we can all relate to that. and as many of us have found out, when you debate that sort of thing, you tend to be either standoffish or overly affectionate, and push the other person away. And if you debate for too long, you push them all the way away. |

| Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Paper Kitten Nightmare Lyrics | 18 years ago |

That "paper tiger" tidbit was a very revealing piece of information... In that context "paper kitten" would seem to be something safe and relaxing, but in truth is not. |

| Minus the Bear – Michio's Death Drive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Not about the song itself, but the title; of course, Minus the Bear is known to have crazy titles that have nothing to do with the song... anyway, the only Michio I can think of is Dr. Michio Kaku, renowned quantum physicist and student of String Theory; a unified field theory (theory that describes (explains) everything in the universe). He is called the "Einstein of our time". Just thought I'd bring that to the table. |

| Porcupine Tree – Blackest Eyes Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This song has so many layers. And most of them are beautifully sadistic. "It's so erotic when your makeup runs" Gets me every time. |

| Porcupine Tree – Trains Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| But what about "When the evening reaches here you're tying me up"? When you associate that line with trains, the first thing that comes to mind is the classic tying someone up and leaving them on railroad tracks. And then there's the issue of the cousin. Given the strange and unorthodox nature of Porcupine Tree, I'm inclined to believe this song is a lot more fucked up than anyone wants to believe. Of course I could just be overanalyzing, but I don't think so. | |
| Bôa – Duvet Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I downloaded some other BoA, didn't like it. Not my style. Actually, it made me want to vomit. Sorry guys. But anyway, this song is a shining diamond in the septic mud. I love this song. Not too sure what it means... it seems fragmented. It works though... I see it as a description of a person, in metaphorical phrases, that aren't necessarily related to each other... just said as they come to mind... in no particular order. It's a sort of chaotic writing technique that shouldn't work but does, very well. Perhpas I'll try again, download some other stuff. No matter how much mud you have to go through, the diamonds are worth it (even on dial-up, haha) | |
| Deftones – Knife Party Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Oops, heh. I used the wrong parenthesis in the middle of the "lostAnyway"... it was supposed to be "...lost (Thankfully, what intelligent person wants to listen to a song about a bunch of drunk guys playing with knives?) Anyway..." | |

One of the greatest things about the Deftones is that chino writes about some of the stupidest shit but as soon as it's played it takes on a million different new meanings, and the original meaning is lost |

| Deftones – Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
AdrenalineKitten absolutely hit the nail on the head. The hole in your heart that only one person can fill, but they're gone., and wanting to run away from everything, everyone. In my opinion, anyway. |

| Deftones – Digital Bath Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Truly, I think what chino meant by the song originally was what you see when you take it at face value. BUT given the way it is worded and the emotion behind the song, I cannot imagine it did not take on a new meaning soon afterward. It can mean a variety of things due to it's lyrical versatility, but to me it never really means anything specific. It is just emotion. Pure emotion. And that to me is the greatest quality of the song: you don't see it, or hear it... you just feel it. | |
| A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| As with everything, it all seems to start with a girl. Regardless of my own story, this is the meaning it brought to me: Love born of the hope of turning a slut into a saint. The love of a supreme beauty reinforced by hope that you can change her from the way she was, how much sweeter if you can keep what no one else could? | |
