I love both versions. The lyrics are great and almost everoyne in this world can relate to it, because usually in relationships there's someone who gives everything, and someone who just takes it without corresponding in a proper way. |

Based on the fact that R.E.M. is 100% anti-Bush, and that Around the Sun was released a month before the elections, I belive that it is a song about the effects of the pointless war president Bush lead us to. Phrases like "Lost in the moment
The day that the music stopped" and "A man walks away when every muscle says to stay" make reference to the paranoia and insecurity after 9/11 (just as tg73 wrote) and the reluctance of a few American soldiers to go to a foeign country to kill innocent peope. |

The meaning of this song is quite simple: American people live in a country that has everything you can wish for, but they don't realise that they get it all at other nations' expenses. I really don't have anything against American people, they're pretty cool fellas and very polite individuals, but the whole media and government have trapped them inside a magic bubble where everything is beautiful and kinda fake. And 2 more things, sexyjedi,1st it's not just a bunch of Germans, it's Rammstein; 2nd please take the time to buy a newspaper and a history book and read about whose government fights wars that are none of their business... (sorry for the bad English) |
