I Defy – Id Lyrics 21 years ago
This is a really good song, one of the most memorable on their CD.
The lyrics are great and easy to relate to, they remind me of friends I've had that have, for some reason or the other, shut me out and changed for the worse. It's perfectly written. It's about how you can get into an argument with a good friend or someone you care about, but they choose to be cold and unforgiving, only to screw themselves out of a great relationship. It hurts to watch someone 'slip away' from being an awesome person to a complete idiot.

Self righteous now.
Self righteous now.
Lost you some how.
Look who's self righteous now!

I believe this is a very powerful part of the song, it's very self-explainitory so, yeah,
I highly reccommend it :-)

I also like how the song is directed at the many ignorant, careless Americans...telling them hey not everything is fine and dandy here, and saying why have blind trust. sorry for posting twice in a row.

This song has some awesome metaphors and a great subject (who doesn't like songs that question the government). Very true.

the tree of liberty
must be watered by blood.

I really like the lyrics of this song, obviously they're talking about stubbornness, which is something I know very well ;)

Nice positive message and really well written. Everybody should listen to this band. Go to thier website.

Bright Eyes – Easy/Lucky/Free Lyrics 21 years ago
I believe aviaticsquad was right about it being a political statement about war and the public. Also, he is thinking philisophically about death. When I first heard this song yesterday, I ddin't really pay close attention to the lyrics. It's a beautiful song but also rather depressing.

"listening for patterns in the sound of an endless static sea. But once the satellite's deceased, it blows like garbage through the streets of the night sky to infinity." is verrry well-written.
He is definitely talking about feeling empty, realizing that the one who died is never coming back, and there is no way to connect with them again until "we'll lay in bags as dead as leaves all together for eternity."

It seems he doesn't believe in much of an afterlife or souls living on, if he puts it as being in bags as dead as leaves. I almost want to like the song less because if it's pessimistic message, but it's too beautifully written to say I dislike it.

It is dissappointing though, this song doesn't really make me happy.

Ashlee Simpson – Lala Lyrics 21 years ago
What a stupid song, by a so-called "artist" (the term is thrown around too loosely these days) who can't even sing. She ruined her voice permanantly because she couldn't sing properly, people.

Now I know girls from ages 10-18 everywhere are obsessed with her, especially this song in particular, which is why I decided to do my shamless flaming here.

First off, the song sucks. Take out the lyrics that are remnicent of a sheltered 11-year-old who is trying to be provocative; take out the over-shouted, way-too-loud, trying-too-hard voice, and it still blows major ass. Britney Spears made it without talent or good songs, but at least she strips onstage.

The next thing I will cover is her image. All I have to say about this is WHO CARES. She wants to look punk-rockerish, so maybe she likes that look. Go with it. She won't be around long enough for you guys to debate that issue anymore. She's not a poser-punk, she's a poser-singer.

And the last thing, these so-called "lyrics". Hello, hun, you are like what 19 years old. Grow the hell up...using sorry excuses for "dirty" metaphors, and calling sex "lala" is flat out stupid. If she so badly wanted someone to fuck her, or to get herself off, she wouldn't waste time trying to find cute little ways to say it.

Pathetically laughable, this whole song must be a joke. I don't know if her songwriter was serious, but sadly all the teenage girls who idolize her are. If you must idolize someone, girls, make it someone talented. Or at least someone who has the balls to say "I want have sex with you"

lala...ridiculous.

Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 21 years ago
As much as I agree with the message of this song, I have to say it's not my favorite. As guitaress said, torching Bush and the government under his administraton seems to be a huge fad now. Not that it's a bad one, but I was "anti-government" for years before it became the cool thing. Nonetheless, I'm thinking the band wrote this supposed to be "shocking" song mainly to gain profit. The lyrics aren't great, though, as I said before, the message is. Also, I don't believe the word "faggot" was necessary, I don't care how it's used, it's immature. The tune of this song, and lack of truly well-written lyrics, makes them sound similar to (but not as bad as) Good Chrlotte or Simple Plan. For a band that's been around this long, you think they'd try to keep themselves separate from the MTV punk bands that market to middle schoolers. Those middle schoolers SHOULD be getting the message, of course, but personally as a fan that's been around for a while, I was disappointed when I heard Green Day had a new CD and the single ended up being this.

As for the music in politics debate (it was on the first page, and I skipped to the last one, so the debate might be long over, but I still have an opinion), I wouldn't go as far to say that music has ALWAYS been political, but ever since the Vietnam War, it has been. I respect bands that sing about society and politics especially (of course) when their political veiws agree with my own, which is basically "society is fucked". I'd much rather listen to a political song, yes even this one, then say "Pieces of Me" by Ashlee Simpson. As rock_bunny said way back on page 1, Green Day is jumping on the bandwagon, and a bit late. Pennywise and Rage Against the Machine sang about this before it was a trend.

Overall- dissappointing, especially coming form a band I usually like.

Journey – Don't Stop Believin' Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is awesome. It's really strong and emotional, and it means something not just because of the lyrics, but it just gets me in a great mood whenever I hear it. This is by far Journey's best song, and it obviously will live far beyond the 80s.

Jet – Look What You've Done Lyrics 21 years ago
I like how this song sounds like a more modern Beatles. All I've heard it this band's popular songs and I can't say I like the other two, but this one is really good. As for the lyrics, they don't suck but they get repetitive...not to the point where the song is annoying or boring though because the Beatles-like drumming makes up for it.
