i just have to say that this song has one of the best drum beats in world. the syncopated kick drums are so sexy and funky. its like a brain teaser to try and air drum it on a air drum machine.
also when i listen to it, i just get these thoughts about death and ones reaction to death and it made me believe that this song is basically a legit euology. not alot of songs in the world have such intricate melodies behind themes of death but the way it grabs your attention and takes you through the emotions of mourning is just genius.
and all this led me to think about the film the fountain by darren arronofsky (not saying theyre based off of each other or anything) and how they both show the fear of death and need to protect loved ones from death. really sexy song |

i just realized that davey writes about vampires often in his songs, (black sails...), so maybe it isnt that silly. but i think vampires definitely have some kind of connation in this song |

yea, porhyia does have its coomon roots in the origin of vampires, victims of this skin disesase had extremely pale skin, could not go in the light at all, and i think theyre teeth even had some discolor in them, like blood stained teeth so these people were always shunned and harrassed because of these judgements on appearance. but i also think this song talks about people who live a double life, a life during the off hours of the day. they hide in the darkness and gather to build like some fellowship. people with a common envemy and goal become friends and grow in strength, maybe people who are blamed and shunned because theyre different and so they band together becauese theyre differences make them a common group. something to throw out there |

this might sound silly, but i looking at these lyrics again, i get a picture of a vampire in my head. "i cannot find reflection"-the whole mirror and lack of reflection in vampires, "as they penetrate me 'recreate me'-teeth sinking and the victim is resurrected as an undead, "i know i died that night, i can never be brought back to life"- a vampire's life is hell on earth, theres alot of other connections. not a very deep interpretation, but a different perspective nonetheless |
