whoa some one really looked at what i said! i can't belive it! thanx black tipped wings. when people don't understand songs they simply say "oh it's a love song" not many people really look into what it means. when i first got into AFI (girls not grey, by the way) i thought wow these guys sound great! shortly after that i bought the art of drowning. it wasn't until my mom found the art of drowning and took it from me and we had a little "talk" (my parents by the way are hard-core cristians) they said that i couldn't listen to AFI anymore because it is satanic! i had never realy read the lyrics and the way my dad explaind it, it realy did look santanic. after our talk they tossed it in the fire! (fuck!!!!!!) AFI had a hook on me, so when i lost that CD (i didn't even like it much) i got real depressed, full of hate, and hopless. i bought the CD 3 times after that by the way, they all got destroyed! with out that cd i whent back to sing the sorrow (i can relate to that now) and looked for a way to say it's not satanic, that it's good music. it was then i began to understand the songs. around the same time me and a friend got into phycic stuff, OBEs, wicca, rune-lore, galdr. and all that good stuff. with my new understandings ALL the AFI song suddenly made sense (now that i learned how to think) i still only have "sing the sorrow" but i feel i know were AFI is coming from. hmmm fuck i forgot what my point was... oh yeah: don't just look at things and say thats what it means. learn to see at a differnt level and look deep within i mean can't you feel these songs? can't you get what emmotions were put into them? to put it simple: many of you are blind, just open your eyes and see! i see your point but, fallen angels are led by Satan and Satan hates humans who God created in his image. he also hate us because God still lets us turn to him no matter what. Satan's two goals are to destroy us and to take the place of God. Demons have no good in them otherwise they would turn to God. the only thing they whant with us is to decive and distroy us. i will try to explain this song line by line so here it goes. "i lay me down tonight, much ferthure down" if you've ever induced an OBE (out of body experiance) you know that thats what this is talking about, that sinking feeling. "swim in the calm tonight, this art does drown" "(What follows) me as the whitest lace of light (Will swallow whole) just begs to be imbrued?" Davey in this is the bunny that the girl follows. "whitest lace of light" refers to the people that are "holy" (haven't seen the darkness yet) "will swallow whole" take the words he is speaking. "just begs to be imbrued" unknowingly is beging to be staind with blood. summery: what follows is niave and unknowing. they will listen to the words and beg for more without knowing that they are going to be drenched in blood (they are going to see somthing very unexpected) by the way, this is the song that brought me in... "What follows has lead me to this place where I belong, with all erased" those who have pushed him away caused him to find this place (state ond/or realm, realm as in a place he goes to when out-of-body)where he is comfertable (belongs) were he is loved and is innocent. "All insects sing tonight The coldest sound" its time i mention, as you can see in the video, that this is in the real world and some other place... this part he is talking about the world. "I'd send God's grace tonight, Could it be found?" he would send God's grace into this place but realizes he dosn't remember it. "I'll lay me down tonight, Much further down, Watch stars go out tonight On sinking ground" agine talking about being in the world preparing to have an OBE now to the title, i bet your all wondering what thats about, arn't ya? "girls not grey" lets split it up and examine each word. girls. also: girl, feminin, having feminin properties. in this case it is "many" so... multiple things having feminin properties. now what are these properties? lets make generalzations (such as "all men are dogs") girls are, besides sexy: willing to follow, easlily trusting, look to go far in relationship. okay now we have that lets move on to "not" well i think we know what not means so let's move on to "grey" what do we know about "grey?" well it's a color. grey is like a lesser tone of white and kind of diluded, so its like a dirty white, impure, not "holy" (like i said "the whitest trace of light" was symbolic of holy) so grey is symbolic of unholy but not black unholy. also in the song "this celluloid dream" he says "all the colors upon leaving, all will turn to grey." meaning that the people in the crowd from diffrent religions and belifes and attatudes will turn to "grey" when they leave. so now we know the meanings of the words "girls not grey." the title is basicly saying the song is to gather "girls not grey" or get people that will trust and look to go far to turn "grey" and become part of AFI. so what happens in the movie (you probly whant an explanation) is: davey, as the bunny, lures people in to this place (that he visits via OBE and talks about through the whole song). The girl follows("what follows me as the whitest lace") this bunny into this place and continues to follow("just begs to be imbrued") and when she sees the band she starts to panic she is imbrued and she dissolves into leaves (her old self is distroyed, for those of you who get disterbed at this point). this is the main point of the song. by the way when ever i type the meanings of these songs it's like i'am being told what to say i find i'am half asleep when i type. its like the words just flow out, unconciously. when iam done i'am surrprised by the result, i don't see how i could have known that but when i think about it i seems like i've always known just without accualy trying to understand it. hmm weird!? anyway if you have futher questions feel free to e-mail me: dinkis007@hotmail.com hate-mail is also welcome but i have a seperate address for that: place_in_hell4u@afterlifeticket.net |

"my mind it speeds. my mind is not my own" that is in there and so is "i've fucking battled you!" you shouldn't leave that out. this song is the conclusion of the art of drowning. if you understood the songs you now see life diffrently. Davey had to battle you to get you to see this way. that is what this song is, declaring what he's done. he had an easy time with me as i was already half way there before i found AFI. thanx Davey. |

what allstar al said makes perfect sense but i'am surprised that none of you got this: notice 6-8 (six to eight) skips the number seven. you may say "so, big deal" but maby you don't know the meaning of the numbers. 6 is the number of man, the imperfect, sinfull "and on the sixth day God created man." 7 is the number of completion, perfection "and on the seventh day he rested." maby you've heard of 666. santanic you say? hmm, well its just the number 6 three times, writen three times to cancel out the father, the son , and the holy spirit (God) basicly it trys to say that man is more powerful than God. so 6-8 skips the number 7, skipping perfection. it's kind of unlikely that 6-8 refers to the number of months they are on tour that about a 90 day differance, but its possible. now that you know what six means "Six figures enter; they've come to destroy the world" has a new meaning. but the song does look like it is talking about their shows. these chills could be somthing wakeing up... elegy is a short song that is mournfull or sad Requiem is a song or poem haveing to do with the spirit. by the way its "wakeful, wry, watchful, we're awating.(period) Deathless ones." i understand this song but its hard say what is means... but speaking of that feeling some of you get, i get it to with me it starts on "i hear the morning chior their elegy" (i hear my followers sing to me their sarrow) i have let this song and the feelings stay in me and build up to the point were i had an OBE, i was taken to a place that was dark and cold with a faint light, i could hear distant singing (so beautiful sounding it scared me) i liked the experiance. at this point i felt a wave of mixed feelings the strongest being urgency. i got so uncomftable i found i was back in body, but i feel i should have stayed. if it ever happens agine i'll just try to ride it out to the end. i don't really understand what happend much but i'am sure it means somthing (as most things like that do). this experiance was almost a year ago FYI. i know you might all think i'am crazy, but by whatever means nessasary i will always try to find the meaning of AFI's songs. by the way i very much agree with articia678 about the meaning of this song... but i feel that there is somthing deeper here. |

this song is hard to explain and intrepret. "I saw an insect learn to fly; its form was scorned. Have you ever seen the kingdom of the flys? I saw it stay in sovereignty" not many people pay much attention to flys, but he took the time to whatch it learn to fly, he also looked at the kingdom, that insect stayed in rule. of what? "Let's lift you up so we can see how fast you fall. We always thought that you could fly; now you'll crawl" put the insect thing and this togther you could say he's not talking about insects at all. something that was scorned, stayed in rule. iam sure you hear of fallen angels. and intresting thing is after Satan decived man in the Garden, God told Satan that he would be forced to crawl ("now you'll crawl") on his belly and eat the dust (have you ever turned to dust?) "Now show me how to shine" Satan shined and Davey whants to know how. "The lack of loyalty you thought you once felt, now you're gonna feel it" Satan probly felt betrayed because things didn't work out how he whanted to. and now Davey demanding to know how to shine is going to acheive (wishfull thinking mabey?) what Satan did not. and by the way i think that none of AFI's songs are about love because in the song "smile" he says "i'll light the world on fire, and in the burning light i'll write my first love song." well the world ain't burning yet, nor are his followers many enough to make light with the fire inside them. |

at first i thought this song was about relationship, over time it seemed it was talking of somthing else. for a while i had no idea what this song realy ment... the i saw the music video. this is were it made sense to me. looking at the video you can see its not about relationship, its about suicide. lets start here what in the movie is silver and cold? notice water plays a large part in this movie, it also appers to be silver and it is cold. hence the name "silver and cold" "I came here by day, but I left here in darkness And found you, found you on the way" in the video it's not dark out, it's day time. so its talking about how he feels. when he was leaving he was depressed, disparing. he found the ocean on the way. "Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me As you're longing to sing So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold I will lift up your voice as I sink" his hollow voice rushing into it (the water) see how obvios its becoming? "your sins into me" i'll make you sinless if you jump into me, sins end after death. "Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn away" at the end he turns away and walks off as the other members of the band are killed in a car crash. in short it's a dialog , him and the water.(or a trilog him the water and another side of him saying"i only ask you turn away") the water saying "your sins into me" blah blah "as you sink into me..." basicly the water (described as silver and cold) is tempting him, trying to make it seem a good thing to jump in. |

take this from someone who experiances this daily. this song is about an OBE (out of body experiance) AFI talks about these alot. heres why: "I feel it washing over me, the slow poisonous tide" this is the feeling you get when it just starts, starting to numb "pins and needles dance on me" that tingeling feeling when you get numb "With eyes sewn shut I still can see all that is surrounding me" right when your about out of body you can see your surrondings even with your eyes closed, this is because you astral body is what you are seeing out of.
