| John Lennon – Working Class Hero Lyrics

I feel like folks are missing the point of this tune and taking everything WAY too existentially . It was obviously written for a wood-chopping lover that had been spurned by John because he felt he wasn't smart enough to make love to Lennon. It's all class-based erotics here, folks. Lennon is this smart dude who takes pictures of himself and his wife naked in bed and prints them in Life magazine; he wears funky glasses and trims his beard and says sneaky things to earnest people. He wishes he could just be, you know, chopping wood. So Lennon is saying: "you are my hero" working class man and since I'm too smarmy to be you, I'll just dream of your big wood-chopping muscles encircling my arms. |
