Devendra Banhart – A Sight to Behold Lyrics 19 years ago
I've also seen the lyrics written
"It's the little head inside your little hole".
IE: the second verse is somewhat crudely about sex, and perhaps the difference of lust versus love ("it would be much better")

Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics 19 years ago
i find it ironic that while many of you concede that this song is about egoism and cockiness and placing people on pedestals, you devote pages and pages of words praising brand new and following their every personal move (the TBS battles, the girlfriends, etc.)
don't get me wrong. i lovelovelove this song. but i love this song because it's a good, witty, catchy song; not because it's making fun of so-and-so from blah blah blah who stole x's girlfriend and then did y.
i think, when you analyze a song down to the point where the universialty is taken out of it and it becomes a tabloid, it really loses its beauty.
just a thought.

Ben Folds – Kalamazoo Lyrics 19 years ago
As a resident of Kalamazoo, here is my take:
many people here are indeed frozen (30 degrees today in October!), and the downtown area is actuallly quite quaint.
however, venture to the north side, and you realize he's not embellishing his marijuana references.

Elliott Smith – Clementine Lyrics 19 years ago
a macrabe play on a macrabe folk song--
the original, about a miner who loses his daughter clementine in a mine shaft accident, has the same lyrics-- 'oh my darling oh my darling clemintine, you are gone and lost forever dreadful sorry clementine."

Grandaddy – Miner At The Dial-A-View Lyrics 19 years ago
"tire scraps on federal roads
look like crash-landed crows"
always seemed to signify to me that the miner was looking at earth, or wherever he used to live, from above.
grandaddy has always had some space-age-type content in their songs, so i always imagined the miner on the moon or some planet.
however, i believe that the closer-to-home meaning of this song is more about living a life so detatched that you have to look at it through some sort of machine, as if you're not really living it.
or, of course, that you've just not been home in a really long time.

Britney Spears – Everytime Lyrics 19 years ago
Kabbalah is a form of Jewish mysticysm (that is mostly thought of as phooey by Jewish leaders). It is the trendy belief system at the moment, and its most prominent member is Madonna. A Kabbalah bracelet is a thin red string that is said to give the wearer good luck, or something.

Britney Spears – Everytime Lyrics 19 years ago
Guys, guys, guys.
Look.
She's not bleeding.
She never was.
That mark on her wrist?
A red Kabbalah bracelet.
"Ha-HA!" you're thinking. "That's clever! The suicide fantasy and hokey reincarnation bit was a farce! She never wanted to die! She just wanted to work in a cheesy Madonna reference!"
And that, my friends, is genius.
I agree with haleyjade:
"ohhhh!"

(for all of my cynicysm, it really IS a kabbalah bracelet. look closer next time at the end of the video.)
