This song reminds me of a friend who drinks a lot of St Ide's malt liqour. He says that just having an open 40 in his hand immediately relives his anxiety. The first part sums up my friend well.

This song is about being a coal miner, in the past, I think in central Appalachia (Cumberland is a town in the mountains of Maryland about a half an hour from the West Virginia line. I'm also pretty sure its a region of the appalachian mountains). The job was hard, the pay was poor, and the mining company tried to take advantage of its employees. I think the voice of the song stays up late having sex and it makes his job harder because hes sleepy. |

I really like this song. Obviously the song is about heroin. I really like how this song captures the "just a little bit higher" aspect of opiate use. Whenever I use hydrocodone I tend to use something else once I'm high, not because hydrocodone isn't fun, but beacuse the mindset is "just a little bit higher." Almost all of shapeshifter lends itself well to drug use. Marcy playground is so underrated. |

I won't claim this song is about Kurt Cobain, as it seems everyone tries to claim about every song. Opium and herion are different substances, but very similar in their effects. Opium is a mix of many naturaly occuring opiates, while herion is synthesised from morphine, a naturally occuring opiate present in raw opium. Not all opiates are the same in their effects, but herion and raw opium seem to be on the more pleasurable side of the opiate spectrum. Sorry to ramble there. |
