The Most Serene Republic – The Men Who Live Upstairs Lyrics 16 years ago
I strongly agree with Grace913.

That being said, I think the song is making reference to not only what we eat, but what is put in what we eat. All the poisons that we're spoon fed everyday due to our detachment with our own meals. Be it the hundreds of different pesticides, or preservatives, or the flouride that is purposely put into our food and water supply. It's not only in what we're eating either, the flouride, its in our toothpaste, cigarettes, wine, beer, cleaning solutions, everything. The list is endless.

There is a wealth of evidence and studies proving the harmful effects of these things and yet we continue to eat it up. Flouride especially scares me the most. It's a poison that is put directly into the water supply, said to have health benefits for your teeth, while in reality, it's slowly but surely attacking your body and several different areas of your brain, successfully lowering the average person's IQ by 20% in a lifetime. Infants, even more susceptible to flouride, is practically fed it from birth (formula+water=flouride formula). The majority of society is SO detached from what is really going on behind the curtain.

"Drowning us in saturation, for all minds to hum the same."

"They" (the people who live upstairs) are dumbing you down. Search for knowledge, read, learn, and form your own unbiased opinions, don't believe everything you hear. Especially if it's coming from that box in your living room.

Ghost Machine – Burning Bridges Lyrics 17 years ago
Its been a long dark road but i remember when it meant the world ot me,
>> Here he remembers when living meant the world to him and everyday was a good day.

Its been a long dark day and a cold black night and it still gets hard to see,
>> Here he talks about how he finds it hard to see whats left to live for in life. He can't see the good things anymore.

Cause they dont know me and they never will,
>> The people in his life don't see how he really feels. And he's not about to tell them.

Its been a long dark road i still remember why it took so much out of me,
>> Here I THINK he's remembering what changed in his life that took away so much of himself. The reasons why he feels the way he does now.

Its a shallow pond we're swimming in and it makes it hard to breath,
>> Whatever he's going through in life right now makes it hard to keep going.

Cause they dont know me and they never will
No they dont know why or how it feels to live
>> Again, the people around him have no idea how he actually feels about his life

Its been a long dark road and i rememeber skies that weren't so hard to see,
>> Here he remembers again when life seemed so easy and carefree

its been a long dark day and i remember nights that made me, me
>> Here he continues to recall the "good ole days" that shaped who he's become today

Cause they dont know me and they never will
and they dont know why or how it feels to live.

.....

Thats how I interpret the lyrics. Basically he's found himself living a life that he just isn't happy in anymore. And he misses the days when living everyday was a new adventure and he was happy to wake up in the morning. Something changed somewhere along the line and slowly things just went downhill..

Meiko – Boys With Girlfriends Lyrics 17 years ago
No no no, you've got it all wrong. The singer isn't lying to herself about anything. Nor does she assume she is blameless..

When she says, "I know better not to be friends with boys with girlfriends" she means to say, "I always fall in love with my guy friends, so I really should steer clear of the ones with girlfriends." She's not claiming that they're "just friends". Because she's not talking about that guy in particular in the chorus. She's talking about guy friends in general, and how she always falls for her buddies.

Where are you getting that she is assuming she is blameless? If you would read the lyrics you could see clearly she says she and the guy are both to blame:

"But I have to get what's mine
What's mine
I'll get what's mine
And you'll get yours"

Here she says she'll get whats hers.. Because she knows shes in the wrong. And accepts that. Also says he'll get whats his, cuz she and him both know he's in the wrong too.

and here..

"You play the victim and I'll be the bad guy"

There she takes full responsibility and just lets it all fall on her. Takes the blame.

I'd read more carefully next time.

And I happen to like the song. Its catchy. And like others have said, if you've been in the situation then maybe you could relate to it more..

Then again if you've been in the girlfriend's position, and been cheated on then maybe you would lean more to hating the song. Might bring back bad memories?

Meiko – Heard It All Before Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with the first comment left by Rocio.
But I think it could have another meaning as well..

This is what i take from it:

I'm so tired of staring at the wall
But I know I've got to put you down
And I keep trying to make sense of it all
But I can't keep going around and 'round
>> Here she speaks about how lately she's not been able to think of anything but what she should do: break up or stay together with her boyfriend. She finds herself unable to decide whether or not to make the decision and do it, even though she knows in her heart it's going to happen sooner or later. She knows eventually she is going to break it off.

And you know me well
You know me better than this
And I can't be sure if you're something I'd miss
>> When she says, you know me better than this, I think she means that her partner knows she's not acting her normal self. She's been kind of down and depressed and not normal for her. Because she's got such a self conflict going on. When she says, she can't be sure if you're something she'd miss, she doesn't know how much more depressed she may or may not be after the initial split. She scared to feel regret after she breaks it off.

Cause I've heard it all before
I've heard it all before
>> I think what she's heard before is the same old, "I love yous" "We can make this work" "We're not going downhill" "You're the best girlfriend ever" The same old lines he uses (or past boyfriend's have used) that make her want to stay but at the same time knows breaking up is inevitable.

I keep finding a little piece of me
Every time we disagree
>> Everytime they fight she remembers why they aren't meant to be

And your words float like dandelions every other way
I can't keep listening to what you say
>> He always has something to tell her to try to convince her to stay and try to convince her things are okay. She's just so used to giving into what he says.

Cause I've heard it all before
I've heard it all before

And I'll take everything I can
And I'll throw it out the door
>> She's finally made the decision to leave

Yeah, I've heard it all before
I've heard it all before
And I'll take everything I can
But I've heard it all before

>> I dont think the song necessarily has to be about breaking up because of cheating.. But maybe just because they both know its over, and she's the only one accepting that. For whatever reason, be it they've grown apart, or are going on different paths in life... Maybe the relationship has become nothing but routine.. But I think at the beginning she just can't decide whether or not breaking up is the best thing for them or her...

Described this way, this song is basically about my life! Ughh.. and I'm the girl.

Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics 21 years ago
this song is not about depression or suicide.
it is about a 16 year old boy named adam who dies from leukemia. he talks about how his mother is going to be upset beyong belief but not to blame herself.. he says he wants his friends to have his belongings. he says no one will ever step foot in his room again. and he didnt have a girlfriend.

i say this because my best friend adam, who was 16, who loved blink 182, died last spring break from leukemia.. maybe you all dont feel nearly the same as i do, but to me, this really always will be Adam's song

A Perfect Circle – Sleeping Beauty Lyrics 21 years ago
I have an enormous soft spot for this song.. it reminds me so much of my friend adam who died last spring break from leukemia. he was 16 years old and when he learned he had it, it was far too late for anything to be successfully done. but they did try.. i think that is what maynard is trying to get across. is that at times you feel this incredible feeling of disbelief when someone you know goes through something such as a fatal illness. you dont want to believe that its real so you shut it out. until you actualy realise that it is really happening you have only so much to let it sink in and you feel as if you need to do something to stop it.. but you end up taking a step back and feeling stupid because it is clear that nothing can be done and your just being foolish.. "drunk on ego" thinking your superman? and that you can stop anything? reality check, its too late. "far too poisened"
