heh you guys are taking these songs too literally... it's not about some dooms day where everyone is running around killing eachother. It's just about people who want something so bad that they resort to sin to get it done. "There is a job to be done and I'm the one, you people make me do it". Basically about how tempting it is to do what's wrong, but it also shows the consequences of sinning. If you sell you betray your soul you belong to him. Seems like a satanic song, but it's actually more religious than anything. |

It does seem to be about a quest for knowledge, but I'm assuming there is an underlying meaning as with most Metallica songs. Just a guess here, but it could be about how our curiosity gets the best of us. We want to know everything about everything, but there are some things we will never understand and we have to accept that. However, it's human nature to pursue the things that we want the most so it's natural that we try so hard to understand the thing that is hardest to understand... ie space. This song is more of an analogy about human nature. |

Cliff is obviously an amazing bassist and probably would have been one of the best if he didn't die so young... RIP. He never reached his full potential so you shouldn't compare him to bassists with 100 times the experience. Cliff was also an amazing artist in general. |

the meaning of this song is so straightforward there isn't even really any need to comment. I didn't know how they were inspired to write this song though so thanks for that info. Also, covers of Metallica songs piss me off because no one is better than Metallica, especially at there own songs. Drowning Pool is horrible compared to Metallica so don't ask for their shitty cover songs. |

This is a song about people who betray their moral/ethical/religious etc. beliefs for material possessions. Just because the song is in first person doesn't necessarily mean the song is about the person singing it. A also think Metallica covered this song because of it's kick ass instrumentals not because of the lyrics. |
