John Frusciante – A Loop Lyrics 17 years ago
If:

Icicles are flames in this city
Everything is what it is not
Each thing diametrically opposed to itself
I can't wait for life

Then Life = Death.

"I can't wait for life" = "I can't wait for death".

Because death is the new life.

I don't think this is in a negative context.

I think it's about touring.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Slow Cheetah Lyrics 19 years ago
The verses:
"Slow cheetah come before my forest
Looks like it’s on today"

Make me think of death but I agree with the great interpretation of the english major guy who said it's about trying to fit inside a mold which doesn't belong to you. Isn't it kind of like being dead? Also the very first line says "Waking up dead inside of my head".

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Charlie Lyrics 19 years ago
I pick something about drugs in the song, too. When I hear "charlie's making me smile" I can't picture another thing than a kid or a baby so my guess is that this is a very positive song indeed. About how kids indirectly help us to get out of our troubles.

Tom Waits – Hoist That Rag Lyrics 21 years ago
Yeah, of course, doubleoh. "So just open fire/As you hit the shore/All is fair in love/and war/Hoist that rag". Well it seems that cloth is no cloth anymore for Tom Waits, and a rag sure represents the glory of a flag whose glorious times are long gone. One truthful now ragged, powerful lyrics for a powerful song.

And adding to Imnotsure's this song is also played with Marc Ribot of the Cubanos Postisos and a long time Waits colaborator from Swordfishtrombomes (or before I'm not sure) and the music is alike to the "Son" music from Cuba.

Interesting indeed. And still one of Wait's Best.

New Order – Turn My Way Lyrics 21 years ago
he sings some choruses too.
what is this song about right now i don't care but everytime i listen to it i feel like something is skewed in our reality and that we are being deformed by it aided by our failing memory
what we wanted to be what we wanted to do and what are whe now and can we yet do all those tings we dreamed about
did we sold out?

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 21 years ago
because there's a lot of people who don't like to like nirvana.
nirvana was somewhat like the smashing pumpkins in terms of popularity -just to point a reference-. they became too popular and -arguably for some- remained true to their creative intention. hmm. some of us don't like sharing our band specially when we believe the band is being misunderstood but then, we¡re not the fucking band to judge who understand or not.
i think many of the hardcorests nirvana detractors are against nirvana because it vulgarised -meaning everyone loved them- and were not a diamond in the mud anymore. right?

Deftones – Back to School (Mini Maggit) Lyrics 21 years ago
ok. i've briefly read everything here and i think that since the beatles the mistake in interpretation of lyrics is thinking in just one dimension. you people go as specific as thinking that this is a song against fcking fred durst, others think its about sucking in school rocks but then dont you think-feel at many different levels? like tying up what you have felt and experienced and understood about similar events all way across your life and understanding of it? well i think maybe chino moreno is singing about a specific event or season of his life but i believe the song has a bit of how he feels about his whole fitting in society and he does it through a school theme because school is the first round up with full society for almost all of us and it goes on for years and it can be enlightening and painful, joyful and/or boring for others. school is a social sandbox -for me a pissed on sandbox- or maybe he's just singing about how he felt at school...
also i sense a disconfort in the role he plays in life, being in cliques, the bad boy, admired by all and accepted by none. that sure hasn't left him to this day in some way.
just a guess. but don't try to be so specific. lyrics are not riddles. they, in the best case, are poetry. no *simple* hidden meanings in poetry there guys. we are all polysemic.

Morrissey – All The Lazy Dykes Lyrics 21 years ago
"And when you look at me you actually see me
And I've, Never felt so alive..." He who sings that is actually a man. So. I believe is more about finding true love not that hetero or homosexual is the right kind of love. The girl in the song is trapped in a lousy marriage so "join the girls" ¿are they lesbians or are they girls who found true love or liberation?

Morrissey – Irish Blood, English Heart Lyrics 21 years ago
Of course you've notticed that the very title "Irish Blood, English Heart" is about unity. That's the way it strikes me when he sings the paragraph "I dream about the time when the english are sick to death with labor..." because I understand he's pointing his finger against the fact that the people has been divided with endless bloodshed by the interests of politicians through the centuries.

i grant you that in the context of the record, being it's first lines "america your head's too big because america you're belly is too big"... in that context it could be. damn this postmodern poets uh.

Morrissey – How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? Lyrics 21 years ago
Hmm. I like the analysis but.
Great works of are art often polysemic or done in a way that it's difficult to identify what is the source and the objective of the work.

I believe the song is really about abuse of authority and who knows which specific situation is Morrisey singing about.

M is very subtle when he writes these lyrics and that in their universality they can be interpreted as anything that suits the main motif -abuse of authority- and the USA-Iraq war is a clear example of that.

The message of the song seems clear and generic. I like this song very much.
