How can you people get so defensive over such a poignant song....especially one about a dead child....and the song is not nearly 20 years old....it was written sometime in the early nineties...making it at the absolute oldest fifeteen years |

This is a beautiful song.....so sad. It is also a known(or maybe not so well known) fact that Phil Collins wrote this song following the death of Eric Clapton's little son Connor. Collins wrote this song for the child and his father....makes it even sadder to think about it.... |

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! It is one of my all time favorites by Elton John. For some reason, when I hear this song, the picture that pops in my mind is a WW2 soldier and his girlfriend....he's overseas and she's home waiting for him....I keep seing this like a scene in a movie...him writing to her by candlelight or flashlight...and this is the result of his heart's musings....it's so bittersweet...almost makes me wanna cry..... |

I don't know what is wrong with most of you people....this song is SOOO about drugs and getting high. My hubby and I had a lenghthy discussion about this a few weeks ago where we printed out the lyrics and extensively read them and figured them out.....the drug references are numerous in this song. That being said...it is an awesome song(I don't do drugs by the way) with fantastic lyrics but the original feel that I got for the song before I paid attention to the lyrics too much was FREEDOM. The atmosphere of getting away and escaping the trials and tribulations of real life...making a break for it....Of course, this can still apply with drugs too... |
