I was about to reference that same interview.
cbay is spot on in my humble opinion, except that I don't think there really was a brother.
I actually get the impression the story about Bear's "brother" is misdirection... I think Bear intends to throw itself from the cliff to provide food for Fox, but knows Fox won't eat him. So he gives him this story about how his brother (who looks "just like me") is at the bottom, and will "fill your cup for days".
"I'll stay up here and rest" is, I think, a white lie intended to cover for Bear long enough for it to make its sacrifice for Fox. |

Also, just found this in a new absolutepunk interview:
ANDY: "Colly Strings" is a song I wrote on the first record I wrote for my fiancee. Each phrase of four lines switches back and fourth from my perspective and hers. The song tells the story of the hard things we had to get through to finally find each other. "Besides you can't believe without bleeding" references the idea that before you can experience real joyfulness, you have to experience pain. It's the only way you can appreciate the good. And to clear confusion on the lyric people can't understand... it is "And I fell flat in Seth Ott's bedroom"."

I saw Andy Hull at an acoustic in-store a few weeks ago; he was talking about how he has a tradition of writing an album every year just for his fiancee, as a way of keeping close when he's on the road. He said this is one of the few songs from those albums that have made it onto a Manchester record. |

I don't know a lick of French and that was immediately obvious to me. I wonder why every lyrics site on the entire internet has some silly line there instead of the (attempted, at least) French one? IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE TITLE OF THE SONG, for goodness' sake! |

it's "who let the BAD in?"
and "everything I wanted in you lacked"
I looked it up in the actual lyrics booklet for the album. :) |

I unfortunately haven't heard this song but I can almost guarantee you I know where the title comes from...when John Nolan first left to start Straylight Run, one of the reasons he cited for leaving was that TBS was getting too formulaic...all the songs kind of being the same format. you know, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-repeat a line over and over at the end. so this is a tongue-in-cheek reply to that, both the title and all that repetition in the end of the song. :-D |
