Do you not understand what tounge-in-cheek means "Kelly". Have you heard the entire cd, it's full of refrences to the band selling out, but they twist it and make it into a joke. I understand what you're saying, and it's valid, but you have to look past it, why would he write a song like this unless there was some truth to it. What, Against me is making a joke video about selling out to make fun of their long-time fans for critisizing them about selling out, oh...funny. Politics of starving- "mtv...fuck you" Oh and they played Giants stadium the other day. Up the punx. Reinventing Axl Rose-"Our arenas just basements and bookstores across an underground America" Is that some elaborate joke too? funny. What we worked for - " May the likes of this song never make one fucking dollar, live on demo tape to be played until it's broken" Oops, we're sponsered by etenis tennis shoes and have played a starbucks sponsered event. Oh, so their just a fucking joke band now, I don't know I still like Weird Al. I mean I understand and agree with the band growing and getting bigger, but I don't agree with the band giving up on it's ethics and it's true fans. They should be using their soapbox to send their anchro message, but itstead they are using it to make fun of their fans like me, who've been around since it was just Tom and Kevin on some buckets. I lost respect for the band, and it's silly that you uphold and cherish their respect for this move. Anyways, sorry for this rant. Oh and next time how about you think of something a little bit more grown up then calling me "fucking retarded" |

| This song is some kind of self-humiliting irony? Like, " Oops, I'm Tom Gabel, you can forget about every other brutally honest song I've ever wrote, I lost touch... lets go to starbucks". This song is an embarassment to the band and to it's fans. Real lame. | |

Have any of you kids even ever had an eating disorder? because if you did, it would be obvious thats what he's talking about. I'm not doubting conor has some kid of substance abuse problem, but as it was, this song is about his time in new york. And fashion rules up here, not coke. Plus when you puke up after meals consititantly, your eyes become red, puffy and inflamed, thats why he says "painted black". and as far as the the "mask" metaphor, I think he's spealing about alcoholism. Plus guys Oberest has come out in various magazines saying he had an eating disorder, "it takes one to know one kid...". well whatever |

| This is a great song. In case anybody's wondering, Alachua is the county Gainsvilles in, where AM! is located. And I think they don't play Crime because Kevin isn't in the band anymore, out of respect to him, paritally that and the fact that with the release of "As the eternal cowboy", the band is going away from it's anarchist roots, which floods the "Crime" cd, and speaking more against commercialism. But maybe that's just me. | |

I think this song is definatly the best on the new record. Actually it's this song that shifts my favor from reinventing axl to eternal cowboy. oh man the fucking breakdowns. and yeah, it might be the best of their set live. |

| Against Me! – Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious... Lyrics | 21 years ago |

whoever wrote these lyrics made a mockery of such a great song. Instead of bitching, support AM! and buy the fucking cd, then just look at the liner notes. Heres the real song. We're all presidents, we're all congressmen, we're all cops in waiting. We are the workers of the world. there is the elite and the dispossessed. it's only about survival. who has the skill to play the game for all it's worth, and reach an obscure kind of perfection. lets try and keep as much emotion out of this as possible. lets try not to remember any names. we'll do it for a country, for a people, for a moral vison. united we make them remember our history. or how we'd like to be told. how we like to be told. We rock, because it's us against them we found our own reasons to sing, and it's so much less confusing when lines are drawn like that, when people are either consumers or revolutionaries, enemys or friends hanging onto the cogs in the system. it's just about knowing where everyone stands. all of the sudden people start talking about guns, talking like they're going to war. cause they've found something to die for. start taking back what they stole, sure beats every other option. but does it make a diffrence how we get it? well do you really fucking get it? |
