at first i thought this was just a normal coming of age tune, but when i see the lyrics its blatently obvious that theres a sense of anger due to the racism experienced by the "old man" how he could die in foreign streets but i could not vote.. its shocking no one has commented on this yet |

I think that if more people heard this song, Van Morrison would sell more records than the beetles. By the way, some rollingstone #500 records of all time, Astral Weeks scored an impressive 19th, selling only 300,000 copies, which just about everything in the top 30 had sold over a million. the one thing i do know for sure tho, is van is a hell of a singer. |

I think its about finally getting the courage and fortitude to finnaly say its over, This song is almost the complete oppisite of "Wonderful Remark" to me, in that the speaker seems to be a person subdued with the courage to break up with the girl when shes not around, but he melts whenever he see's her, in my head thats whts going on anyway. |

The last waltz proformance makes me smile whenever i watch it, it is the only time ive seen van proform live and probably will be the only way i ever will. But its just how i imagined the way he woudl rock, minus the outfit, but you cant have everything. |

Well, in my oppinion it seems that most of St. Dominic's Preview album is about san francisco and other parts of california. Van was astounded by the beauty of the noble redwood tree's, unlike anyhting he had ever seen before, and (this being the days of the early 70's) did alot of hanging around in the woods with these tree's. The song to me is how important a sentimental object can be to a life, but after that life is over, the object will remain. I dont know, but the part about cali is true=) |

To understand this song you have to understand van... which is why very few people understand this song, and no body knows for certain. But in a number of his songs he brings up the level of astral plane of reality (astral weeks, slipsream, many other songs) for those of you not quite up to date on your es. docterine, astral is the plane of reality right above our own, where only the skilled can see and remember what they have witnessed(hint "dreaming") although this doesnt completely explain the song, it helps explain atleast what the "mystic" is.
P.S. any van fan should have the Astral weeks CD, Ranked number 19 of all time by rolling stone, the kicker is its only sold 300,00 copies, so lets change that part. |

As crazy as im sure this sounds, this is the truth. Van and his friends/family would go up to a small lake on top of a mountain to fish. Him and his dad one time went and met an old man with weather worn skin. They asked him for some water and he filled up each of their bottles with what the man said he got straight from the stream that ran behind his house. When van drank the water he was stoned off nature for around 5 minnutes.

Exactly, its an honor for them even to be considered next to the largest band of all time, that means their music is really great.
This song to me is about a friend who he is to afraid to say he loves because she is who he always falls back on when times are bad. and he fears he if does tel her his feelings he'll loose his "wonder wall"
