this song is a perfect song about evolution through life perfect because its kinda telling you that you cant say things like i think incubus should go back to how they were before, and, boyd should grow back his dreads... you cant expect people as deep as boyd not to change and evolve through life - their music must also change, if you like. Life is definitely not predictable and for goodness sake stop trying to plan it. (theres a little green day ditty with a similar theme on the tip of my tongue) interesting that line - every piece contains a map of it all - 1st it made methink about the complexity of the human mind/brain apparently if you remove parts of your brain information isnt necessarily lost the essence is that the information is not stored in parts of the brain..but in the patterns of elextrical activity in your brain - but probably not what this song is about |

please stop me if im wrong but i thought i read some hidding meanings in this.... And with our roots, become a tree To shade what we make, under it -i got this slight vibe that boyd is thinking about having children. Sounds like hes with someone with whom he wants to let his love GROW (become a tree) (also grow together implies something long term / eternal) and with that love raise and protect a child that was born under-it i.e. shade the products of their love. Also the concept of a tree ties in nicely with the concept of a family. i think hes telling this woman shes THE ONE. its probably a dum over-analisys but interesting none the less |

what if this what if that... yeah its druggy, i always related to this - my mind cant stop asking questions and to be honest it wont settle with any answer even if i think up that answer - i guess its a habit of trying to look at things from as many perspectives as possible - often forgetting that there are possibly an infinite many perspectives that can be gotten - thus leaving me with an understanding about how a certain subject may be viewed by different people but leaving me with no real opinion! it drives me mad but i feel trapped - painful when i cant ask "why?" im a straight bloke but when boyd sings this he gets so into it - so passionate about the music its really beautiful - i wish i was there or i could turn my emotions into such amasing music. Its a real shame that someone as deep as boyd coudnt find common ground with dirk - i guess they tried to. I also wondered if clean was about dirk biting his tongue, or even blood on the ground - but thats really violent - im sure the person who inspired it must have reallyticked brandon off. x.sweety.emo dont worry i think bens a good bloke - incubus are just a bit of a dust-cloud at the moment - bits all over the place - just wait for them to settle...adjust there'll be a beautiful picture on the sandy ground - lets hope brandon tries out his old edgy vocals again although i like some of the higher pitched stuff on southern girl etc - and id like to see some more intricate - deep lyrics rather than easy sing-along ballads. |

beautiful song that danced with my previous realisation that just because people had believed in a god and a particular set of rules for 2000 years, I didnt have to look at the world the way they were telling me to look at it. I dont have to be goverened by other peoples self righteous judgement and scrutiny whether a religion, a moral, a social construct - people are afraid to define a world of their own they have to pick one of the available religions, clans, logic and emotional constructs. If the world for each person is defined through perception then surley when they die for them 'the world ends' not litterally. oh dear oh dear (its not just about using big words - how old are you) theres so much more than that! youre all slightly off with the interpretation. The ancient myan calander finishes at 2012 of 4-21 at 10:24am - i.e. the predicted end of the world- why would they stop it there unless they knew something we dont, or at least believed they did! Hey! (Just Joined hence name) Dude drugs may fuck with your mind but in many cases can cause people to explore some of the most interesting parts of their minds. I am one of those people of philosophically inquisitive disposition who got so frustraited with everyone just living out their trivial lives without thinking and questioning what had already been laid down, rules, beliefs, morals - bar a few post modern philosophers who missed the point by writing huge books that noone wants to read. Until I heard incubus! - Beatiful, accessible philosophy! If you think the lyrics on fungus are all drug talk youre missing the point. Brandon is naturally a deep person, probably the most philosophical singer in any band ive heard. Of course the drugs did help to fuel the production of incubus'amazing vibes and words giving them new inner perspective, musically and philosophically.
