Agreed... I love it. Special meaning cause I like this guy who comes into the place I work all the time, but I would never say anything to him. It's probably better that I don't. This song is perfect for it. Plus I feel less creepy, knowing it can be seen as sweet... what with there being a song about it and all. |

she adores someone but it's not mutual. he's in love as well, but with someone else.
"these cucumber eyes are lying the more that i smile about it" - maybe the more she tries to be happy for him being in love, the more she realizes that she's not, and she can't be. her eyes are lying to him?
"all of my clothes feel like somebody's old throwaways" then "it really does suit you" - love suits him, looks great on him, yet she isn't in love like he is - hers is one-sided - so she feels unfit, unpresentable. love doesn't suit her, literally.
"i'm black and blue all over" - she's hurt, she loves him but it's not returned.

To me it seems like he's talking about someone he knew in grade school or high school. He really liked her a lot. She moved off to LA (like everyone else did) and is now famous and on TV and all these "strange places" - strange, because she was a little small towner like him. Seems like everyone else is gone from the town, moving on to (or at least trying to) bigger and better things - LA. And he's the only one left, working for his dad scraping paint. Kind of the sad, pathetic, but really devoted "I'm waiting for you" love song. |
