I don't think this is such a complicated song at all., gone fishin obviously means he went crazy. and as for taking the path of least resistance, I haved considered that my philosophy before I heard this song. It means to do whatever it takes to have as little things happen in your life to avoid problems, but the double-edged sword effect leaves you with no good things either. That's just my take on this Awesomest / absolute, best song in the world. |

Does anyone else get the feeling that the guy in the story is God? He's up in the sky, she keeps talking to him and gets no response, only orders a bloody mary, and he finally speaks with infinite knowledge when she is dead (or close to it). That last part is similar to what Mr. Oberst starts saying at the end of "the difference in the shades." As for the rest of the analysis, it seems pretty welldrawn (cough cough *ivenrick* cough) |

| I just want to say how amazingly similar brocks writes compared to Bukowski. Not even in this album,(because he wisely went commercial) but in moon and antartica you can really see how similar their writing is. both coarse, full of sick humor, and honest insights into the minds of intellegent (but rare) people as well as the fucking masses of morons. (including all you damn punks). Now don't even try to argue with me. | |

my take on the song? Its all about him thinking differently about everything than his possible girlfriend. "It's the big show tongue tip tied to the roof of my mouth bad naughty little angels come rushin' out. " this tongue is tied, and he doesn't want to say things that may sound true but offense (naughty angels) "I don't know but I been told you never die and you never grow old." I'm sure he just likes that line and it means something personal to him "I guess you guessed that I"d catch hell. I just caught a cold but now I'm feelin well. " The girl told him that he is going to hell for his sins, but since he is agonistic, he doesn't believe her and thinks its all mumbo-jumbo "It's the big show it's big show" no clue at all "Looked like we were photographed at gun point so I had to laugh. Ha ha. " he was able to find humor in something she couldn't understand, and she was mad at him. "You said "I hope you live forever." Don't you wish that on me. You said "don't be clever." I think this is pretty face forward, she was trying to be sweet, but he doesn't like the concept of forever. and she got pissed that he didn't accept the compliment. I don't know but I been told you never die and you never grow old. It's the big show. " something about religion i would bet. "They see us talking out both sides of our mouths. Two faced monsters. aaawh." The us referring to the people who think as brocks thinks, how they put on a show and pretend to be like everyone else. so that is only my interpretation. That is also what I am going through right now. Brocks sounds far too much like bukowski. |

| I just wanted to add, since i am too lazy to explain myself, that this song could be about losing your virginity, and then seeing everyone else your age still stumble around like children. But thats just my take on the song. | |
