The first emo band was Rights of Spring, circa 1985, but their masterpiece End on End was released in 1991. They have little resemblance to modern, bad, mainstream emo of today, like Jimmy Eat World or others because their music is considerably much more hardcore (think Fugazi). Now that your history lesson is over, you morons can stop talking about emo in a forum for Teenage Riot. This song isn't even remotely emo. Incredible song, you must listen to it if you never have. |

it's about guys being chewing gum. you chew on them a while and spit em out. chocolate is decadent and worth holding on to and cherishing, but "oh no...you're chewing gum". it's about how girlies are fickle. |

great song, really is the best chorus on totbl, the way that the lyrics are layered. "in my mind/this is my free time", i like it. |

| Joy Division – Atrocity Exhibition Lyrics

i just found out that it's about seeing ian curtis/joy division live. "for entertainment they watch his body twich" = epilepsy. it's such a negative dark song because ian is so depressed and self loathing. imagine this (courtesy of my bro): joy division plays this song as everyone is entering the venue to see them play; "this is the way;step inside", so creepy and morose |

obstacle 2, i agree with about half the stuff you're saying, but disagree with most notably the last 2 lines of the song. the way i see it is the sames as bamargero's interpretation ^ |

whoa, I don't think anyone is murdering anyone in this song.
"he whistles and he runs", he's playful and needs space and independence. but the father is afraid "he might succumb to what you haven't seen". the father wants to "tie him up", and keep him close, so they argue.
"when the cadaverous mob..." -- this is a hard lyric to interpret |

actually it is about a cocktail waitress, I didn't make that part up or interpret it for myself; Paul Banks revealed it himself, the rest is my interpretation |

I haven't given this much thought but it just seems like it's about a relationship from the male perspective and he's not taking it too seriously. he flirts and plays with her feelings but isn't serious enough to make it a real relationship. she turns him on and stirs his emotions but he is more playful than committed. |

P.S. these lyrics are completely wrong. whoever wrote them makes me feel like a lyrical genius. "oh my love, we're sailing to Norway" |

its about a guy on a cruise ship who sucks at being romantic and getting girls so he starts hitting on a cocktail waitress. "make money like fred astaire" - he's rich. "pitbull in time" - aggressive. "baby don't you try to find me" emotionally, he's shallow. "i am a scavenger between the sheets of union", easily the greatest line. this guy scavenges for girls, and sex, "between the sheets of union". sheets= bedsheets, union = sex. |

paul banks said the song is about a father and son arguing on a boat. but the song is sung from the point of view of a crustacean watching from underneath the boat. i really havent discovered the meaning of the song yet. |
