The Mountain Goats – If You See Light Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the narrator is trying to relate to Dr. Frankenstein. One of his secrets has been leaked and he fears that all his friends will lynch him because of it, but they don't even seem to care since he's been in hiding, waiting for a long period of time with no repercussions (waiting all winter). Classic delusion of grandeur story. Really great and beautiful. |

To me, the narrator is a pet. A cat comes to mind. Perhaps it's a lover who feels like they're being treated like a pet, but I like the idea of the narrator actually being a dog or a cat more. |

I'm thinking that the meaning has to do with senility or having a stroke. Brine boiling away could signify the evaporation of preservative fluids, spending time in jail, but not exactly could mean that he's trapped in his mind, and then losing control of language is often a symptom of stroke victims. It seems like too direct of a interpretation for the mountain goats, but that's what i take away from it. |
The Mountain Goats – The Mess Inside Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think that this is the explanation of the "Going to..." series. A couple that escapes from their problems by escaping to far away places rather than escaping into alcohol like the Alphas. |
The Hold Steady – You Can Make Him Like You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I agree with treblejones. It's about those girls who just leech off their guys. I can't imagine that any of this song could possibly be taken at face value... especially these lines: "you can hang in the kitchen talk about the stars in the upcoming sequel" I can't imagine anyone, let alone an artist, saying that you should be happy with being so bland. And while there's nothing wrong with being a home-maker (staying in the kitchen) he's using this as a stereotypical view of how these particular women are satisfied with living off their boyfriends/husbands and have nothing interesting to say for themselves. |
Emery – Under Serious Attack Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm always reminded of Donnie Darko for some reason during this song. I realize it probably has nothing to do with the song meaning, but it's just eerie how well the two fit together. picking up the pieces from the night -he's always following clues which he knows nothing about every time the sky breaks open with sunshine and streaming swords collide it takes me back in time -The engine from the plane takes him back to the beginning resolution made (in vain) to face (play out) the day life is yours to save (save it) or take (take it) away -he saves everyones' lives by sacrificing his own Just some of my own thoughts on the interesting parrallels, take em or leave em. |
Emery – As Your Voice Fades Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Anyone know what the girl is saying? this is what i have, but i'm not sure about the first word: ***** changed to my hands, my face i'm left wanting why is this happening why were you taken away i'm tired i just want to go home |
The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics | 19 years ago |
it sounds more like he's saying snap to me.. then if you listen close you hear "snap that picture..." |
The Postal Service – Sleeping In Lyrics | 19 years ago |
OK this is more about the actual music in the song. Is it just me or is the sound in the beginning a zippo opening and closing? If so, that's fucking genious to sample sounds like that in order to create part of the backbeat. Just confirm if you know/think/whatever.. it helps if you listen to the song through headphones |
The Used – I'm a Fake Lyrics | 19 years ago |
First off, i just have to say something that bothers me about all of the online lyrics... at the very end of the song he screams out "genuine fake" and no online lyric that i have read has any mention of this. This song is definately about getting over cutting and possibly drugs.. the opening monologue is him being the cutter, then once the music starts, he is back to himself and his message to the cutter starts. i doubt that i can (or should) really try and say what all the others said before me, he's talking about cutting, or drugs, a vice if you will.. and saying that he's a fake version of his former self because he no longer participates in this action. The real key to this song is the end where he screams out "GENUINE FAKE" meaning that even though he's a fake, he is finally being truly human. |
Foo Fighters – Monkey Wrench Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Anybody else think this song has anything to do with Dave's relationship with Cobain? I mean, the guy's got all this musical talent and he's reduced to playing the drums.. just totally overshadowed by the late great Kurt Cobain.. any thoughts on this? |
