not about sex girl is on the verge of breaking up with singer "Well it's getting colder and you're getting distant" -maybe it is getting colder, winter's coming, but hes also talking about her heart. she just doesnt love him as much anymore as a boyfriend, doesnt call him as much, never wants to hang out, etc. "and I just keep thinkin' that I never meant it to be like this, to be like this" -he wanted it to WORK. he didnt want her to avoid him. he saw forever in them, and now shes slipping away. "You know what comes next, so do I" -they both know that a breakup is inevitable, as much as they might want to say "no, we can work this out." "You’re begging for a way to gracefully bow out and say "goodnight!" " -she doesnt want to be a bitch, but she wants to end it. shes just a little scared to do it. maybe a lot scared. "It's worse than you think " -shes really hurting him by acting so removed. she thinks that she can just slowly cut him off and it wont hurt as much, but shes practically tourturing him. "On your way home you should have known you never listen to me" -i think hes saying that she should never have wanted to be in the relationship in the first place, because hes not the center of her life. sort of a "i wish we'd never met" line. but we all know its better to have loved and lost, right? "I’m only complainin' to keep myself busy, sweetie " -since shes leaving him, he doesnt have anything else to do. maybe by complaining, he can avert his attention from his pain. "I can’t say I blame you but I wish that I could" -she didnt do anything wrong, she didnt cheat on him or anything, but he sort of wishes she had so he could be pissed off. at least if he could blame her, he could have some closure and realize that hes better off without her. but he cant, so hes left wondering and sad. "I’m sick of writing every song about you" -shes all he thinks about, and hes now to the point where he doesnt want to make it work, hes so annoyed with her. he realizes that a girl who pulls herself away from him isnt what he wants. "Don't call my name out your window I'm leavin' " -lastly, he reiterates that she started this breakup, and if she doesnt follow through with it, hes going to have to. he doesnt want to be dragged back in by her tears or sweet words. he just needs a clean break, and a fresh start. |

thanks. i think their titles might seem random, but they have some hidden, symbolic purpose for being there. people can twist anything and make it seem like its about sex. finding the deeper meaning is the challenge. if you are thinking "sex" when you hear a song, you wont be able to get it off your mind everytime you hear the song. someone almost ruined 'great romances' by telling me it was all about sex. id never even considered it, but now that ive heard it, it seems like such an easy, shallow interpretation. nakakatakot hit my nail on the head too, and helped get all that silly garbage cleared up. |

the title is wrong. its set phasers to stun. before i didnt really mean a random person, just someone not necessarily involved in a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship. now that i listen to it again, i changed my mind. i think it could be about a boy and girl who were broken up, one (lets say the girl) is now depressed and leads a sad, boring life, and the other (the boy) is trying to get her to get back together with him and come out of her loneliness. shes just not doing it though, probably because he hurt her. im way to lazy to go line by line, but look at it with that in mind and see if it makes sense |

ok, what is the matter with some of you people? just because one word (intention) was in you're so last summer, it doesnt mean that the songs have anything to do with each other. and "cant you live without the intention" doesnt even make sense. so yeah. now back to the meaning of the song, because this is a SONG MEANING SITE. not a TBS site. get your emo butt back to a coffee shop, please. so, i think this song is about how someone always needs to be in the spotlight, and the singer is now distached from him/her because the person is so selfish and confident. however, the singer knows, or wants to believe, that he still plays a big role in the persons life, and that the person needs him, but the person won't admit it. he doesnt live up to his first impression anymore, because now the person expects more and has higher standards. |

| i think this song is definitely about ending a relationship. he doesnt want to hurt the girl (say you wont care). and hes still trying to figure out what went wrong (retrace the steps). and he wants her to have a say in the breakup (come untie the knot). i think the 2nd verse refers to a relationship just getting boring. no big tragic dramatic incident... its just over. | |

| starcounter is right. i dont get any connection to straylight run, brand new, or a girl out of this song. it seems to be about a random, everyday person. maybe about a girl when i read "say yes, im sorry it took me so long" | |
| Taking Back Sunday – The Ballad of Sal Villanueva Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| save the stories for the campfires. so ANYWAY back to the MEANING of this song. does anyone know what "you've got your high as a kite tricks in the bag" means? ive never heard that term before. maybe its more like "you've got your high-as-a-kite tricks in the bag." high tricks. this song is pretty basic though. | |
