Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 19 years ago
The singer (whose name I temporarily forgotten after having my mind liquidised by three hours of Green Day and Blink 182 videos) said in 'making the video' that he doesn't agree with the current establishment, nor the way the country is run by both the politicians and the media . . . I have to go lie down now. Damn you, MTV2!

Eminem – Just Lose It Lyrics 19 years ago
I love the lines:
'Mmmmm touch my body, Mmmmm touch my body
Ooh boy just touch my body, I mean girl just touch my body . . . Guess who's back with a brand new rap
And I don't mean rap as in a new case of child investigation accusation . . . Yeah boy shake that ass, Woops i mean girl, girl girl girl girl '.

It's piss-taking Micheal Jackson to the extreme (apparantly hes being sued over it) but frankly, Jackson deserves it.

Marilyn Manson – (s)AINT Lyrics 19 years ago
I read in Kerrang! that when he made the video, he was seriously thinking about suicide, and that there was nothing in the world worth living for. The video, and I quote: 'Nothing was faked. The video shows Manson snorting coke from a bible, masturbating and having graphic sex with both men and women.' The video and the song itself shows someone who's tired of being everyone's butt-monkey. Powerful.

Britney Spears – Toxic Lyrics 19 years ago
She actually has singing talent (think of her voice doing the vocals for 'American Idiot' by Greenday), but this particular song, like so many others of hers, is awful. Think of the video for this, or for that matter any of her other videos. Would you really want your 11 year old to be watching this, watching it with admiration? That's the cool thing about rock: most bands write their own songs, and actually know how to play instruments. At least some of them do it for the music, not for the fame/money, etc. The person who writes Britney's songs, however, probably cares little about the musical message, and more about how well it will sell. That blows.

NOFX – Franco Un-American Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah. What they said. Actually, the UK and Australia were the only other countries that went into Iraq with America, not counting the countries which either have no army, or an army that could be taken out by someone with a slingshot and good aim (well, Costa Rica /did/ offer to send some monkeys to detonate land mines . . . the Coalition of the 'Willing' declined, however).

W could go a lot further if he followed the footsteps of some of his predeccessors. Franco, Mussolini and Hitler were all much more popular than Bush is, mainly down to the constant message to everybody (kids especially) that 'We are great! Support us!'. Jebus help us if Dubya got his act together and started running campain ads on Nickelodean and the Disney channel.

Why don't you all move to Ireland? We speak English (and sometimes Irish, but that's only for torture purposes disguised as a school subject), get even worse weather than the UK, are the second most expensive country in the EU and have anti-Dubya protest marches in which 1 in 10 people in the capitol city turn out on . . .

You know that McDonalds were sued because they put worm meat into their 'beef' burgers? They got cleared, but part of their defense was that 'The beef we use is actually CHEAPER than worm meat'. Pleasing thought, isn't it?

Love the bonus tracks that we get here. I think it's to do with the copyright laws, or something. Sucks that you can't get it in the US, though.

Blink-182 – Not Now Lyrics 19 years ago
It's deep. It has an almost Pratchett-style (concerning the death part) feel to it, talking about how 'death will happen to all of us, but I'm still gonna be around. No one who's released as many fuckin albums as I have will go easy. I'm gonna be there for you, babe' while staying in a major key. The words are sad, but the tune isn't really, pushing forward the feeling of happiness beyond sadness.

Blink-182 – Dumpweed Lyrics 19 years ago
Blink 182 are one of these bands that are kinda hard to pin down. They started punk, moved towards pop-y/punk lyrics, and are now leaning more towards mainstream/modern rock with the new album. This song is OK, not the best on the album, but not bad.

The line 'I need a girl that I can train' on its own is sort of sexist, but in the context of the song is understandable. He's talking about how you can't get out of a relationship until it's too late, and how girs can be really undpredictable and susceptible to mood swings, et al. Also, how the world seems to be running against you, but that seems to be a general theme with loads of their stuff.

I object to 'regan 89' saying that 'insomniacx86x' has the brain of a 6 year old. I know several 6 year olds, and they are all considerably more intelligent than s/he is.

Blink-182 – The Girl Next Door (Screeching Weasel cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
DUDE! I THINK YOU MUGHT HAVE SAT ON THE CAPS LOCK KEY. THERE'S NO NEED TO BE SO FUCKING LOUD! Anyhoo, I like this song because it shows the way that some people live such mundane and ordinary lives, it's almost depressing. This song is a bit like '1985' by Bowling for Soup (and, no, I'm not going to say: 'BOWLIN 4 SOOP FUCKIN ROX! BLINK SUX!'), where you have this woman who was going to be a superstar model groupie, and ends up married to some guy with two kids living in the suburbs. Unless you realise your dreams and do something about them, you're going to end up like those chicks.

Blink-182 – Easy Target Lyrics 19 years ago
The lyrics don't actually do /that/ much for me, but I love the way that the drum carries the whole song along with it, and how the guitar goes along for the ride . . . pretty cool song, on most accounts. Yeah, there's a story behind the words, and the words rhyme and sound nice, but they're not what make this song great.
