| Streetlight Manifesto – Down Down Down to Mephisto's Cafe Lyrics

I agree that the line:
Finally, I met a man with kindness in his eye and fire in his heart
He said you'll never have to choose a side
It's rewarding but oh, the road is hard....
They broke him wide open
Like a dam and a cork that's holding everything inside
is about someone other than Jesus. I think its about the current state of hostility between Christians and Non-Christians in this country. To not take a stance in the whole thing will surely be a hard road to travel. I think the paralells to Jesus or God are supposed to give a prophetic feel to someone who is championing the notion that you can NEVER know the answers to everything. And you can accept that, and probably be happier all in all, but you will surely meet with grief from others who are very set in there beliefs and think that they DO have all the answers. I dunno...thats how I see it. |

A-fucking-men kimopo. Do people really need the threat of going to a place of eternal suffering and punishment to be kind and loving to others? I know not everyone who believes in a god or an afterlife believe this, but when people tell me that "most people who die dont go to heaven because they haven't accepted Christ as their personal savior. And thats a FACT." i get a little upset. I can believe that a god described as just and loving would damn someone who has lived a good life and has been kind to others, but failed to recognize Jesus as their messiah. Hoo...enough preaching. sorry. I truly love this song, this album, and this band. I agree that the theme of this album is life, death, and uncertainty of what (if anything) comes after. I dont think its something someone can come to a conclusion about without alot of soul searching and deliberation. I think people who write off religion without giving it any thought, are as sheep-like as those who take everything their told about God as fact. And in the end, there's really no possible way to know for sure. Your life is your own, as are you decisions and your beliefs. I'm sorry if you have read this far. |

they rhyming scheme in the first verse ("clever never hesitating in the bating ever waiting for the canticle of manacles abaiting") sounds very Graffin-esque to me. |

if you haven't yet, do your self a favour and read the story under "History" on their web page. it's a little hard to keep the names straight because there are so many, (some characters having more than one). But i'm pretty sure scott is mentioned in there somewhere. I could be wrong. |

I agree with mrjack. Some people spend their life in servitude to a God that they really can't know exists. I am reminded of a book "The Purpose Driven Life" (which I didn't read all of but I have read parts and have had it described to me.) The gist of it is that we as humans are given a purpose on this earth, which is to serve God. And In doing this you will lead a happier, more fulfilling life. Perhaps this is true, for that would mean act in a more loving way toward other people, and will therefore (hopefully) get some of the same treatment in return. However, I think that some people need to believe that there is some reward awaiting you at your passing, which I really dont believe. I think the reward of feeling better about the way you treat people should be enough. There's my two cents |

there is an old version of this song that was just released on the first release of jason and his wife's record lable Noise Riot Records. The album is called "On the Eve of Destruction" because its all pre-Destruction by Definition recordings. Anyway, there are two versions of this song on it and one of them sounds like they all might have been high recording it. i dunno, the way they are singing just sounds like they are out of it a little. its funny as hell though. |

its got a much jazzier feel to it. Both the recording and the musical nuances, make it feel like they are all just jamming in a small jazz club. I kinda liked the way the old one sounded (rough around the edges as uztnus put it) but the dudes from streetlight are all better musicians that the ones from catch-22. I really like the way the drums sound on this one alot better. Chris Thatcher is the shit. |

you know this was originally done by Tomas' pre catch-22 band Gimp? they were a straight up punk band i think...his bother Achilles (his name is Achilles...how cool is that?) played violin on the track. i'd really like to hear some of their stuff though. |

I'm in a band, and we just had a show on friday. I play drums normally, but Ben went back and played drums for Roots Radical (Rancid) and this song and I got to sing it. It was lots of fun, cause i only sang the "and she dont like it when i drink/ she says that i'm a fuckin asshole when i'm loaded" part. The show was a blast. |

I love the guitar solo in this song. its my favorite one on the CD. this is also one of the catchiest songs...yeah, i think ever. i had the line "punk rock on the radio and a couple of tall boys, and i'll be feeling fine" stuck in my head for like 3 days. i'm not to big on the idea of the consumption of alcohol, but this song is just all around too good for me to not like it for that. |

i will have to say that this is my least favorite song on Keasby Nights. First of all its about a girl, which doesnt make it a bad song in and of itself (i mean Kristina is about a girl), but it certainly doesn't help much...and its just not as catchy as the rest of the songs on the CD. its still better than their newer stuff without tomas though. |

what the hell is the thing about the bucket full of phlegm? dont get me wrong, i love this song and this whole album, but that line doesnt make any sense to me. the only thing i can think is that when he felt so inclined to write this song, he happened to be sick and alone in his room with a bucket full of phlegm. can anyone shed a little light on this subject for me? |

i think the cannon in D part is really cool. the line "your black, i'm white, he's purple," particularly the "he's purple" part makes me think that its also about conflict between people with different sexualty. |
