Fiona Apple – The First Taste Lyrics

"I lie in an early bed, thinking late thoughts,
Waiting for the black to replace my blue."
She's laying down during the day, ready to go to sleep... and the black would be the night sky/sleep replacing the blue sky of the day/being awake. |

Incubus – Oil and Water Lyrics

To me, the song is all about a relationship that is doomed, but, neither one of them really knows why. It's like, they're so completely different, but, at the same time, there's no one else on the planet that fits the other as perfectly as they do.
But, even though they continually go through the motions (arguing to harmony and back again), he's starting to realize that they just don't mix (like oil and water...)
What I'm not sure about is whether or not he's deciding to keep trying, or if he's calling it quits... Anyone? |

A Perfect Circle – The Package Lyrics

I think this song is all about how a person will do absolutely anything to get what they feel they need, no matter what the consequences are, sometimes.
It's about simolutaneously losing control and making a conscious decision. |

Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics
|
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this or not, since I don't plan to read 27 pages of people's ramblings about this particular song, but...
I was watching Season Three of "Mr. Show", and there was a skit in an episode about a kid who jumped into a vat of acid (and survived) after hearing a song about suicide that his favorite band made. He's so disfigured that they don't want to have to fulfill their promise to let him backstage at every concert they perform in that tour, so, they write a song called "Blah Blah Blah (Adam's Song)".
Just throwing that out there as a really weird coincidence, if nothing else. |

Piebald – The Monkey Versus The Robot Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
To me, it's not a commentary on the stress that comes along with work/school, so much... It's more of a postcard, sent out to the fans, saying "I wish you were," so we would never have to be anyone's robot, and nobody's monkey.
But, we can't be there, so, at least I'm glad that they don't take theirselves too seriously, and relish every opportunity they get, because, they really do have the most amazing job in the world. |

Scenes from a Movie – Goodbye Reckless Lyrics
| 19 years ago

I'm pretty sure that this song is about making a journey to be with someone, and things don't turn out the way you expected them to. So, things are bad, but you need to know deep down that it's your fault. I think it's about blown opportunities, regret and the desire for that one more chance. |

The Allman Brothers Band – Midnight Rider Lyrics

They performed this song (obviously) at the last show I went to, and Gregg was amazing. You almost get lost in his emotion, like a hitchhiker walking the country road at night, with nowhere to go, but nowhere to stay. Truly amazing. |

Incubus – Megalomaniac Lyrics

To me, this song screams: "DIRK. DIRK. DIRK!!!"
Brandon is amazing at getting his point across, and while I am a big Dirk fan, I can see where the two egos of the men would not get along once fame accompanied their being.
To me, this song will forever be about Dirk. |

Bush – Swim Lyrics

My buddy has a theory that this song is about "starfuckers", or obsessive groupies for the most part... He says its about the love of the art and the path that has been chosen, but fans smother the life out of him... Like his fame is a whore, meaning both a disease infested curse of a lifestyle, and also a "quick fix" to most of his problems...
It's a double edged sword. |

Blind Melon – Life Ain't So Shitty Lyrics

Shannon Hoon is the only person who could have ever gotten away with writing a song called "Life Ain't So Shitty", and then kill himself by means of accidental (?) overdose... Blind Melon is amazing, and that's all there is to it... |

Dashboard Confessional – The Best Deceptions Lyrics

blakesays... holy shit... omg... you are fucking KILLING ME... Radiohead and Modest Mouse are superior musicians, and when I say that, I mean in their actual instrumentation... Neither group has SHIT on Chris Carrabba, as far as song writing (lyrics) go... There's more depth than you'll ever know, and that's just because you're not deep enough to feel emotion, you jackass. Thank you. That is all. |

this song is pretty self-explanatory, i think... I don't know what Aim, Snap, Fall has to do with anything, so if anyone could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it... |

The Spill Canvas – Your Evil Soul Lyrics

I'm trying to rid the poison from my mind
This song, to me, is about a breakup that was probably for the best, but he just can't get over it, as much as he knows he should... Maybe it hits me this way because that's the situation I find myself in, but oh well... |

The Spill Canvas – All Hail The Heartbreaker Lyrics

I will sleep another day
I don't really need to anyway
What's the point when my dreams are infected
with words you used to say
How do you come up with something that heartfelt, amazing, AND true??? This song represents everything I love about how much I hate girls for being evil... |

Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
This song was the first song my ears ever heard on this planet... My father played no music on the way home from the hospital, and put on the Pink Floyd album upon walking in the door and sang along to this song, making it my christening into the world of music...
I think it's about a child being born, and how the world tends to turn everything into it's own, much like the parts to a machine. Basically, the lyrics suggest a father telling his son to be his own person, and not conform, yet not get too irrational with his decisions. It's all about individuality in an age of brainwashed youth. |
