| AFI – This Time Imperfect Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I shall elaborate somewhat on this song. Get over it people, to some extent, this is a love song. This sets up a horrible wound delt to him by someone he loved more than words could express, and now this injury has left him daze, speechless, lost. His discontent life was just handed a rather harsh blow. | |
| AFI – Miseria Cantare: The Beginning Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
For those who hath followed, the story ends now with Chapter 13: Our narrator has been reborn, with a new sense of purpose. He has survived and now will unite with the others like him. This is a story of survival and unity. Thank you, those that listened, no matter what you think of my idea. Any feedback would be nice. If I have helped one fan see the light, or one critic open an ear to this blessing, I have done my purpose. Let me know what you all think. |

| AFI – The Leaving Song Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 12: The narrator is reflecting on everything and sees that all his pains aren't the fault of others. The dialog is a flashback of what he once had. This is a song of regret and rebirth. He wants to move on and make things right. Has anyone actually been following this thing? Am I on to something, or am I really just walkin' arounf blind in left field? Well, the story concludes in chapter 13. If you've follwed thus far, you know where to go. If not, check "This Time Imperfect" to see what I'm ranting about. |

| AFI – Bleed Black Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Ha, I just realized I said "silver and cold" comes before "bleed black"... Oops. Sleep helps. Anyways... Here we are again. The narrator has stepped down from the events of "Silver and Cold" and now reflects on what he has become. He acknowledges that he is figuratively dead. He hates what he has become, for he sees how pitiful and pathetic he has been. He wants to destroy himself, and recreate himself into something better. He cannot make them see through death, but open their eyes through life, by being reborn. |

| Note: This is all off the top of my head, thought up about, 30-40 minutes ago. Be gentle with my half-baked theorem and please, elaborate, correct, whatever. | |

Chapter 12: The narrator is stunned by someone reaching out to him, he's telling his story, and this starts a rebirth. Gotta go for now. |

|
Ignore the last post. I'm stumped here. My half-bake theory runs dry around this point. I'm thinking this is a reflection of the days leading up to it and weighing his choice t live. Any help would be appreciates as always. MY attempts continue into "The Leaving Song Pt II" |

| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 10: he narrator is standing on the bridge, preparing his grand exit. The video helps with this a lot. Watch that and read the lyrics again as a narrative between the narrator and the water. to "bleed black" |
|
| AFI – Dancing Through Sunday Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 9, is it?: The narrator's talking to himself, the inner voices question his contemplation of suicide. He feels he must take make himself be heard, he can no longer stand his ignored existance. This is his final cry to be seen. He will force them to see him. It should be noted, his mental state is rather impaired lately. Dashing on to "Silver and Cold" |
|
| AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 8: The narrator has now lost everything. He is ready to just lie down and die. His few comforts mentioned in "Death of Seasons" are gone and he is unbearably miserable. The sinking ground is his crumbling existance, no longer even capable of supporting him. He is trully ready to die. His haunting past ("What follows") is eating away at him, demanding his death as the only escape ("begs to be imbrued"). Now, to "Dancing Through Sunday" |
|
| AFI – Death of Seasons Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 7: The narrator is tired of all the betrayal and abandonment. He can't face the world any longer. He is so detatched from his reality that he just feels inhuman ("Posthuman extinction") There are few comforts in life left for him ("The falling stars"). There is no hope "It won't be all right despite what they say"). I think you get the jist of this chapter. Onward to "Girl's Not Grey" |
|
| AFI – The Great Disappointment Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 6: The narrator finds himself completely alone. Everyone he thought was there for him, his friends, loved ones, have turned their backs on him. He is forced to face this reality, searching in in vian for something lasting, something that won't die on him (the amaranth, the imaginary flower that will never fade). To "Death of Seasons" |
|
| AFI – Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 5: The narrator, after his reflections in The Celluloid Dream now looks back on his love, his initial rejection that caused the avalanch, burrying his life. He low looks "up" on everyone "soaring" above him, looking down on his failure, he is just waiting for them to crash and burn, as they say. When they do, it'll be his time to laugh, his time to dance. Are you catching on, or am I just taking a swan-dive off the deep end? |
|
| AFI – This Celluloid Dream Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 4: Our narrator still dreams of his career, and feels that his career is passing him by, that his life as an actor can only exist in dreams. He is reflecting back on his time as an actor. The music. It was his ecstacy, and now its turned to grey and is gone. "just like the afternoon snow" his dream melted, and along with it, his life. Now, to "Paper Airplanes" |
|
| AFI – The Leaving Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 3: Our dejected narrator is lost, nowhere to turn. Those that doubt him now take their turn to laugh at his failures. He misses the light still left in his life as he focuses on the negatives that plague him. "Hard to notice, gleaming from the sky, when you're staring at the cracks." He is turning his back on everything and feels that everything that could go wrong, is. "All the cracks they lead right to me and all the cracks will crawl right through me"... the hardships are endurable, but will take time. Now, on to "The Celluloid Dream" |

| Follow to The Leaving Song, those that hath followed me so far int his backwards journey. | |
| AFI – ...But Home Is Nowhere Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Chapter 2: Narrator's professional life has crumbled. More than ever, our narrator is out of place, unable to piece together his shattered existance. He feels unwanted by this second failure. He is breaking. |
|
| AFI – This Time Imperfect Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is the first chapter of the album. The narrator is discontent with life, feeling out of place but with nowhere to go. He(designated he, though gender is unclear) is failing in the relationship department, his professional life is strained, he is losing his reality. There is a reason why this wasn't a seperate song, it is linked with "...But Home is Nowhere", which I will explain under said song's posts. Follow those that care, its quite an interesting story. | |
| AFI – Bleed Black Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I've heard of a theory about a reverse song order, in which case, this song would come before Silver and Cold. This song, the narrator hates what he has become. "I am destroyed by the inside, I disassociate I hope to destroy the outside, it will alleviate and elevate me Like water flowing into lungs, I'm flowing through these days" 'destroyed by the inside' who and what he/she is. 'I hope to destroy the outside' the body 'water flowing into lungs' foreshadowing of his preparations to end his life. People catching on yet? |
|
| The Mars Volta – Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I noticed the end of this song and the beginning of the next sound like distorted sirens, possibly like one could hear in such a state as Julio. The spector lurking could be the persons inside the ambulance maybe. So, all this may be the way to the hospital after the attempted suicide. | |
| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Good interpretation Yuki. I like that thought a lot. Not so much the specifics of it, but I don't think those are important. I like that a lot. Also, discarnate, if you want some help with the "satanic" issue, I have some stuff for you. "The Nephilim" is a song filled with good Biblical imagery. Not a single song has anything even remotely glorifying the devil. "Morningstar" is really the only one that could easily be interpreted as relating to the devil, but thats not all it could be. Talk with your parents, let them know that AFI is a good band with good morals (ex: Davey is straight-edge (drug/acohol/sex free), show them the lyrics for "Narrative of Soul Against Soul" (an anti-suicide song), and just tell them how you feel and maybe they'll let you listen to your damned music. Good luck. |
|
| AFI – Narrative of Soul Against Soul Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The chorus is saying that we look around, people let us down, lie to us, we are alone. "Angels..." We need to support one another. Its about unity, surviving together. We all can be someone's gaurdian, their angel. "So live." | |
| The Mars Volta – Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
The beginning, "Ruse of metacarpi Caveat emptor....to all that enter here Open wrist talks back again In the wounds of its skin They'll pinprick the witness In ritual contrition" I began writing something, looking at this as another account of his attempted suicide. Then I caught something else. It isn't that, its his blurred sense of time and reality as his mind is leaping from the injection to the hospital. "Open wrist talks back again/ In the wounds of its skin/ They'll pinprick the witness" The doctors are examining his wrist, (where he injected the rat poison) and debate the use of an IV due to the condition of his arm (ritual contrition). Keep in mind his mental state. If he is even conscious, he is highly delusioned and hallucinating. Most likely, he would have just slipped into his coma, still aware of his surrounding, though not reacting, all this mixed with his hallucinations. "A spector will lurk" The doctor(s) is/are hovering over him, observing. This is only a new idea, fresh off the top of my head. Please, intellects, comment, criticize, anything. Ignorant, hold your tongues and still your fingers, we needn't be bothered by your irrational thoughts. |
|
| The Mars Volta – Inertiatic ESP Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The ignorance of some amuses me. For those afore mentioned, julio injected himself with rat poison in an attempt to kill himself. What I get from this is Julio's slipping in and out of consciousness, drifting towards his infamous comatose state. The poison has begun to deteriorate his tissue. His skin is shriveled and scarred, his arm deformed; his body is destroyed. He is beginning to hallucinate while passing towards a coma. He is on the verge of death, the voices of doctors and nurses surrounding him. He sees what he has become. "Now I'm lost." | |

| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Note: The manupod statement and the address to the ignorant are not related and should have been more clearly specified as unconnected. | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| manupod isn't really a completely made up word. As I pointed out in the corrected lyrics posts, Manu is the primordial father of man, manupod being a term refering to the children of Manu (men as a species). None of the lyrics are meaningless. Every word has a carefully chosen purpose and meaning. Not a single word is arbitrary or meaningless, and to even consider such a possibility in this song is ignorance unforgivable by those intelligent enough to comprehend the truth. If you are so ignorant, keep such foolishness to yourself and do not give in to the desire to share your stupidity with everyone else. | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Very good. Very good, indeed. I got the "half-eaten" part, but I didn't connect the number three to the mythological Fates. That's brilliant. I'm impressed. Thank you for your insight. | |
| Queen Of The Damned – Chester Bennington Of Linkin Park - System Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song, to me, is about Akasha. Lestat's obsession with her somewhat haunts him. She offered him her blood (Your blood is mine) and he feels he should be her King. Yet, at the same time, he is torn. He doesn't believe in her vision of the future. So, while he burns to have her, he doesn't want to submit to her ("Must you tempt me and provoke the ministy"). "I will not die" is his refusal to submit to her, to lose his independence. However, "I can't relate to a happier state, feeling the blood run inside" talks about how when he drinks from her, nothing else matters, he is in a state of extreme bliss. I have more support to this, but I should not think it pertenent to post. I'm sure anyone that cares has gotten the idea thus far. I will say, however, this fits slightly better with the book than the pitiful excuse for a movie the song was written for. Jonathan Davis did good in writting the songs to fit the books. | |
| Queen Of The Damned – Wayne Static Of Static X - Not Meant For Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Correction. This movie was an insult to the novels. However, the music was marvelous. I believe Lestat's music would sound very much like this. This song brilliantly captures Lestat's arrogant nature in his challenge to the other, weaker children of the night. I'm afraid I have to disagree with the idea of this song calling out Akasha. This song seems a direct challenge to provoke the other vampires. Lestat wins no matter what the outcome of such a confrontation, as he conveys through the song. I they destroy him, he gets his escape from this hell. Should he triumph, well, you can figure that out. | |
| Queen Of The Damned – David Draiman Of Disturbed - Forsaken Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Lestat definately is tired of hiding his greatness from the world. He refuses to be condemned to a life of secrecy any longer. Jonathan Davis did a good job of capturing Lestat's bold nature. The novie was a horrid work unworthy of existance, but the music was a saving grace. If you do not connect it with the novels, it's a fun movie, though. But definately, Jonathan Davis is amazing. | |
| Nightwish – End Of All Hope Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I agree with all my soul. Nightwish is undoubtedly one of the best power-metal bands of our time. You aren't likely to find much better. | |
| Nightwish – Slaying The Dreamer Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| He edited the profanity for good reason. Profanity would greatly weaken the song, and he knew this. I don't think its so much to be poetic, but to be sophisticated. Talented music doesn't need profanity to express emotion, and this song is a perfect example of such a point. All the rage is there in its purity, but is even more meaningful without the uncivilized profanities to taint its dark beauty. I don't feel like typing the word 'profanity' again, so I'll end there with that half-baked rant. | |
| Nightwish – Dead To The World Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| No comments? Blasphemous listeners of our age dare to ignore such a divine work? So disappointing. | |
| Nightwish – The Phantom Of The Opera Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm surprised that you all find his voice so unsatisfactory. I rather enjoyed his take on this masterpiece of a song. He had a deeper, creepier sound that contrasted quite well with Tarja's beautiful, higher voice. I think Tim Rice and A.L. Webber would be quite pleased with this cover. But to each his own. | |
| A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Ok. Judith is his mother's name. His mother was a strong Christian up to her dying breath. He wrote this about his mother who died a rather painful death due to complications from an aortic aneurysm. "Took all you had and Left you this way Still you pray, never stray," Her body has been destroyed, yet she held to her faith and Maynard can not understand such devotion. "Oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you " He feels God has abandoned his mother. He respects her devotion, even says she's an inspiration to all the blind christians of the world, but that she's following a diety that has left her and that she will find no salvation in Christ. "Talk to Jesus Christ as if He knows the reasons why" and "Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed" Hope that was short and clear enough. |
|
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I noticed something that perhaps someone could help explain to me. On www.themarsvolta.com, the Televators lyrics are different. "Fragments of sobriquets/Riddle me this/Three half-eaten corneas/Who hit the aureole" is "Riddle me this/Flinch stitching/ Aureole"... That confuses me, because I know that is not what is sung in the song... Any ideas? | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Mind if I ask about how you came to ravens as an answer to the riddle? It is an interesting concept, I am simply curious about the thoguht behind such a suggestion. And as to the Manupod statement. "crescent in shape" refers to his body lying in the "fetal position", appearing crescent shaped. He is the only one among the crowd of onlookers (cluster of animals, anyone?) who has escaped this world. | |
| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Wow. Looking back on it, I think discarnate had a real horrorshow interpretation. Very horrorshow indeed. My interpretations are too often way out of left field. Once more, failure is mine. | |
| AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Wow, I'm going to catch major crap for this, but that's never stopped me before. So, here we go, boys and girls! Ok. I'm going to toss the kicker out from the get go. Vampires. Stop here, or read on. I care not. I'll say it again. Vampires. The narrator is taken into the darkness (made a vampire) "I came here by day. But I left here in darkness." He is nolonger a child of the light, but one of the night. "now, silver and silent/It is silver and cold" Silver shows how everything is right and all the impurities and negatives are gone and he is left in silence. The cold is death, and the fact that his body is literally cold. He is now obviously in awe of his maker, "You in somber resplendence I hold". Now, "your sins into me" the blood stolen from the living being drainined into the narrator. All is light and he is a new being. He will pledge comfort and support to his maker. Etc. Make out the rest for yourself. Hate me, agree, whatever. Form your own opinions. As long as you're thinking creatively, I don't care. |
|
| AFI – The Nephilim Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| People are so bold to assert that the narrator of a song is Davey. Have you no more imagination? Must the narrator always be the author? Don't let such short-sighted thoughts poison your analysis. You all are doing so well. Such intellectual thoughts and no disrespectful comments. Keep up the good work. | |
| AFI – The Last Kiss Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Back. Now, the narrator is in her house; alone again. In his desperation, he is deserted , left to his crazed and haunting thoughs. In a final attempt to get her attention, he hangs himself "Hung in your room, swaying, hoping only that you'll see". Now, all this may not and probably is not ment to be taken as a literal action. Rather, he most likely is mentally and emotionally killing himself, only wanting her to notice him and love him. He doesn't comprehend his flawed logic, as few of this mental state do. This piece is very rich in this disturbed, stalker-quality feel, as seeded in the diction and structure. | |
| AFI – The Last Kiss Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
1) 060606, pull the stick out of your ass and chill out. Everyone has opinions. No one opinion holds any more power than the others unless you are the writter of lyrical masterpiece. 2) I find multiple interpretations, all circling the same. The first is a reflective narrative, working in reverse chronological order. Genders and relationships are not concrete, but here's how I see it. A person is in love with someone past the point of sanity. In his rejection "The more I show the less you'll want to know. " he decays to a masicistic(sp?) state of depression. He then proceeds to break into her house (Pushed through your panes), cutting himself viciously on the glass (Seems I've landed quite uncomfortably." The insects feeding and the needles beneath his skin are either his feelings eating at him, or the broken glass stuck in his bleeding body. Either way, he is broken, physicially and spiritual/emotionally. He has watched her flee. I'll continue in alittle bit... I gotta leave for the time. |
|
| AFI – The Leaving Song Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Random tangent: "Rabbits are Roadkill" was written in the back of the book, as TheNephilim pointed out. Another song debate brought to my attention that Davey's zodiac sign is the Rabbit. I also love the idea of a secret order of songs. Reminds me of TOOL's "Lateralus".... That CD is so amazing. I"ll look into this alternate cycle. If anyone has any info on this, I'd love to hear about it. | |
| AFI – Exsanguination Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| People, you guys have danced on and around the right idea this whole time. Is there any dispute as to the ature of the truth if you all just look? Literally, this song speaks of vampires. It is, in the literal sense, about the narrator being held down and turned into a child of the night (vampire) against his will. "You watched me dieing/ Holding me down/ You brought my rebirth" Any argument to this? There shouldn't be. Anyone that can read and has any knowledge of vampiric mythology knows this fits all too perfectly to be a misinterpretation. Now, that being said, keep on reading disbelievers, there is more, there is most likely an underlying meaning. I'll leave that to the inividual reader to interpret, but there can be no doubt the song is about vampires, atleast on the surface. | |
| The Mars Volta – Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Yes, Ravings got it pretty dead on. the "exoskeletal junction at the railroad delayed" is saying that the connection between body and mind was lost (the coma) though delayed foreshadows an awakening to come, which in turn leads to the events of "Televators".... Anyone agree or am I running with the wrong idea? | |
| The Mars Volta – Inertiatic ESP Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The Mars Volta doesn't make any sense if you don't think about it. The first time I heard them I thought they were just mindless lyrics from a drug-burnt mind. Then I actually 'listened" and I found a brilliant web of imagery and metaphor, easily outshining the worthless world of modern rock. These guys are utterly amazing. Musicispowerful, let me now add how damn jealous of you I am. Not only did you see TMV, but you saw the choir of seraphs (APC) in all their glory. You are a very lucky individual. | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Anytime. Glad someone found some of it useful. | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| actually, let me correct the "Manu pod" statement. I'm sure there is a reason they made it noe word, but the meaning behind it is still the same. Didn't know if anyone cares about such an insignificant piece, but if anyone does, I hope that helped. | |
| The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Just a little update for you guys, "manupod" is not one word. Manu, the primordial father of man, is the intended word. "Manu pod", not "manupod". Hopefully that will help you some. And if anyone didn't know, "Autodafe" is a word for the public execution, usually in heretical matters, such as burning at the stake, etc. | |
