| What hits me is the realism-the every day life of someone who is depressed over a break up-not a heightened metaphorical song-but something everyone can relate to. "My friends all say they're worried I'm looking far too skinny " when I have a break up this usually happens to me. | |

| The mother theory seems to ring true and it would explain and almost make just the angar and frustration of the song. But that aside it also makes me think of how when you are totally in love-that person is the only one that can make you truely happy and truely sad-so when they make you truely sad you need them to make you truely happy. | |

I agree that this song is originally about heroin and forms a comparrison with love. But it has also made me think of other similarities and how it demonstrates that love can become an addiction. I have never touched drugs but I definatively have been addicted to people!This can be almost as dangerous as being addicted to a drug-as you start to believe without them you can't be happy. When I first get into a relationship I tell myself that I will not compromise who I am and will not fall too deep-just like most people that start to use tell themselves that they won't become addicted. People start to lose their own identity when they get into a relationship much like drug users. Sometimes drug users take a weaker drug to keep them going when they can't get their usual fix-we might look to someone else whom we have no emotion for as a quick fix when we lose the person we really love. I know I've gone off on one but the song just really made me think. |
