i looked up the word siddhartha online and it has something to do with the buddist religion. Siddhartha apparently lived through the good and bad things in life. Jerry is writing about how he has experienced the good and bad in life. "Happiness and black both known, much learned" He states how he his experience has taught him lessons in life. He uses him as inspiration and looks for a better day ahead. This is a great song to listen to when times are rough whether it be relationship trouble or any general life problems. |

I think this song is about how we're always looking for that special someone but its so damn hard. He says that he's depressed about the whole situation and wants to leave the place but its pointless cause he'll still be thinking about her. He mentions how he thinks she is dealing with the same thing and how it aint right that they should both be going through this personal pain and anguish. This is where the song shows its full meaning...the end part, i believe he is saying that after trying to hook up with this girl again, he realizes that he was only drunk or high and she was really only playing with him when he thought something meaningful was between them. So now he's left looking like the fool for going after her. He gambles on calling her, but she totally blows him off and he falls flat on his face and into the fire. |

Another song I can relate to so much. To me, its about not having someone plain and simple. You may keep telling yourself that you're better off free, but in the tough times you realize that it sucks. "black is all i feel so this is what it feels like to be free." Layne wrote the lyrics to this one himself and one of the deepest parts to the song is this line: "Surrounded by empty souls, artificial courage used. And because so, once was mine
I walk this maze alone." I think what he is saying here is since he doesnt have anyone, he's always with his friends who are just out to have fun and get laid and have no intentions of looking for that special somone, yet he is. And since he is the only one in the group who is really hurting, he has no one to talk to about it so he has to pretend like it doesnt bother him(artificial courage) but its really killing him and he has to deal with it on his own(walk the maze alone).
Another great line is this "Chaos and hate shadow me, pain it fills me up. Only one thing makes me feel, missing better half of me" I think Layne is saying that all this pain is causing him to become a bitter man and the only thing left that could make him feel at ease is having a girl(his better half).
Like I said, very meaningful song to me. |

I think this song deals with a break up or coming to ones senses that they will no longer try with this particular girl. He's saying that he knew that she was trouble from the start "mind of destructive taste, i chose to walk amongst the waste that was your heart" but still got involved and was/is paying the price in pain. He's saying that its such a shame that a girl can get in his head and do that to him "as my castle crumbles with time...i think of you......such a crime." He says how she enjoys putting him through this kind of pain. "lines cut across my face, while you laugh at my discrace, i'll never know, how far to go, to reach that place" and how he cannot ever think of what to do to make it better. But, in the upside to this song, he gets back at her by just simply smiling at her when she argues and shows her that he wont be lead into her games any more "you opened fire....and your mark was true....aim my smilin skull at you....i live tomorrow.....you i'll not follow, as you wallow in a sea of sorrow"
I have dealt with a few women like this. It was all about head games and nothing is better than pushing back when some psycho girl tries to get in your head. That is why such the long response to this song. I can relate 100% |
