I love the line "and you buy the hole you'll fill"
If this is a deep song about the meaning of life as Dave has said in interviews, this line definitely refers to the endless pursuit of possessions and how they just end up making us feel even more empty |

Are these lyrics confirmed? I thought it said "The lovers are at it again" instead of "The lovers are riding again"
Seems to make more sense to me |

Like others have said, it seems pretty clear that this song is about overcoming addiction (specifically alcohol) thanks to some savior. You can interpret the savior as almost anything you want - God, Jesus, a loved one, etc. In this case, I think Dave's savior is probably his daughter. |

yeah i can really relate to this song. it rocks. "is someone getting the best of you?" This has a cool double meaning i think. It could be a question to the broad he's talking about like someone up there said "he's getting the crap end and someone else got the goods" and at the same time it could be a question to whoever is listening if they can relate to the situation cause someone's taking advantage of them.
So, how long before someone tries to convince us that this song is about kurt? |

an interesting note, Kurt was born in February.
by the way, i'm one of those guys who hates when all foo songs are linked to kurt, but it is interesting all the same. |

i think this song is about hiding your feelings. (my secret's worth keeping, keep out of reach). He's desperately trying to get himself to open up and get things off his chest, but he can't bring himself to do it. |

I agree with the last two posts. It must be a little frustrating for Dave that every song he writes is tied to Kurt somehow. That was definately a huge thing in his life and a huge influence, but people have a way of getting over things in time. He didn't write it about Kurt, but about people who are heroes despite being regular, ordinary people. I do believe, however, that he thinks about Kurt every time he sings this song. |

i sort of agree with the last post, i think its about being scared to fall in love. If you look at the lyrics, it sounds like he's thinking back on a decision he made to break off a relationship, because of a fear of committment. he's looking back, and realizing that he made a mistake and lost a chance at true love |

Love this song, all the distortion and different goings on almost makes you feel physically exhausted. I can't understand the lyrics, and in my opinion dave's voice is without emotion in it, all the emotion is wrapped up in the music and distortion |

also, just look at the parts he remembers: the beginning(everybody remembers that), the hedgerow part (famous for its alleged backwards message), and the dramatic ending. I'm sure at one time he knew all they lyrics, but i don't think he practiced the song. The parts he remembers are the parts that are most famous. |

I think he might have actually forgotten the words. If you've ever seen him in concert he thinks quick and is very good at improvising. Listening to this, I can't believe that he could fake improvise so naturally. I think it was just an impromptu thing and when he realized he didn't remember the lyrics, he just rolled with it. |

| Foo Fighters – Halo Lyrics

|
I can't believe no one has commented on this song. It is one of my favorites from the new album. I think its about death, and a fear of dying young. The first verse is about life. Whether things are going good or bad, you're still alive, and experiencing these things makes you feel alive. The fact that he says they're overrated means that he know life must end eventually and hopefully there's something better than life beyond the grave. But when he says "wait and pray you'll pick on me the day i raise my hand," i think he is hoping that he doesn't die until he is ready to. "Halo, God only knows, right behind me everywhere I go" is where he talks about death chasing him. I love the way he uses the beautiful image of a halo to symbolize death instead of the cliche dark and dreary symbols. None of us know what death is like, it might be beautiful, but there's only one way to find out, and he just hopes that he can experience a full life first. |

The line "sometimes I feel I'm getting stuck, between the handshake and the fuck" is one of the all time great lines in my opinion. Its like one of thos simple things that somebody says that you can completely relate to your life. Its the ultimate verbalization of sexual frustration. |

This song has special meaning for me because it reminds me of a relationsihp i was in. I really cared for this girl but she didn't feel as strongly for me. She used to ask me if I was tired of her yet, but I guess I couldn't take a hint and just put up with a lot of shit. When I first heard this song it blew me away because it reminded me so much of what happened and the fact that even though its been over for a long time, I still think about her and care about her. |

People use the term " up in arms" when someone is ready to fight. This song is about a relationship that continuously fails, but there is a special connection that is worth fighting for. He is saying that he's ready to fight for this relationship again. |

amounted can be used to mean equality or equivalency. When he says "I'm amounted", he's saying that people should not have to fit a mold, who they are is enough. Some people conform through hard work (payroll) and some just naturally fit the mold (lottery). I think he's just trying to say that there's another way to live. Its a cry against materialism and superficiality. |

Whenever I hear this song I imagine a bride or groom sitting at a wedding where their lover did not show up. I just imagine the chaos of people around them worrying about different things and all they can think about is the person they love. It makes sense to me anyway. |

I think that this song is about relationships. Dave uses the airplane to symbolize love. He says he's afraid of airplanes (committment) even though he likes the way it feels to be in love. Then he talks about the plane crashing, which is the end of the relationship. He then talks about looking forward to the next relationship (close my eyes and hope that its a real smooth flight this time). Relationships don't always work out, but he still has hope that he will eventually have a smooth flight. Every line of this song taks on special meaning to me when I think about it this way. |

I remember reading somewhere that Johnny Park was one of Dave's friends from when he was really young, and he thought if he titled the song this way, he might be able to contact him again. I wish I could remember where I read that. |
