I love this song! Oh and everyone who thinks the Chili Peppers are gettining worse? In case you hadn't noticed, they've changed their song on pretty much each one of their albums. Why do you think they're still so popular? They actually have the guts to change their sound, unlike most modern bands. Some people think they're getting worse, some think they're getting better, and some people (like me) think they've always been better. |

Yeah, it's about equality for all, but i think it's also kind of about how even though America claims to be all about equality, there's still so much discimination here based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. The Chili's have made pretty clear that they hate all that stuff. They rock! |

God, I love this song. I always thought it was more about a death of innocense, but it makes sense being about his dad. Deliberator's right about them dedicating it to Johnny Ramone. I was at Green Day concert last week and that's what they did. |

I always loved this song. Along with the whole always being there for your friends thing, though, it makes me think about the whole taboo of suicide that there is in our culture. When I was watching the video for it today, I started wondering if maybe it was partly about Kurt Cobain. Just a thought, but I know he and Anthony were friends, so... |

THe reference to Jo Jo is actually talking about a guy who was studying aat an Indian temple place at the same time as John Lenon. Apparently, every morning when John went into the kitchen to make his breakfast, Jo Jo would be in there, and John would have to wait, hence the "get back". |

Just thought I'd point out that it isn't necessarily disssing the bush administration. It could just as easily be talking about the average american population, regardless of the government. |

The dylan version of this song was about the death of a soldier, and i assume gnr interpreted it as such when they decided to cover. Still, the gnr version seems to also convey a sense of evaluating your life and wondering if you've really living it the way you want to. |

To every onewho has been going off about Green day having written the song to get attention: THey wrote the song to express what they believe in. WHat is music about if not to convey feelings and emotions. If you don't like their politics, fine. It doesn't change that they chose to express thier feelings in a well written song. |

I agree with alot of the interpretations I've read, but personally I've always thought the song was an up and coming musician and his chance meeting with a musician who'd been popular, sold out to pop culture and then faded away. |
