Jewel – Stand Lyrics 21 years ago
I really like this song and I think that it makes a good point. Let's do some analysis. Basically, in the first verse she is making a general statement about human nature these days. She sees a cop, who is supposed to be the epitome of safety and righteousness, shoplifting. An old lady, who should be the most harmless thing in the world, totes a gun. A hero, who is supposed to be the one to save everyone, can't even help. Instead, they run away. She then comments about how everything isn't perfect even though it's not all bad. There are kids playing bills and people buying pride and nobody is unified.
In the chorus, Jewel basically expresses her feelings about the current situations (war, for the most part) in the world. "Mothers weep, children sleep, so much violence ends in silence" - I think that this means that children are being killed, mothers are crying, basically people are dying left and right, and from all of this violence nobody does anything, nobody takes a stand and it continues to happen. Nobody gets the blame, and the pain cannot be stopped. Jewel wishes to make a stand against this with someone.
The second verse is much like the first, commenting on humanity again. "A waitress brings me lunch, we meet but we do not touch" - I think that's a powerful line. In modern society we almost don't have time for each other, there is no gentle conversation or an exchange of smiles for now reason. Jewel also brings more politics into the mix, saying that she feels that D.C. (most likely the Bush administration) sells lies to the people. "While in the corner, King's dream dies" - this refers to Martin Luther King's dream speech, and she's probably saying that racism is still a large problem in the world, thus killing King's dream of racial equality. Also, in this world the homeless man has more money and kindness than the mayor, who would rather spend his money on drugs and hookers than more important things.

Rooney – That Girl Has Love Lyrics 21 years ago
I believe that this song is about a girl who committed suicide at 17. She had what looked to be a perfect life - great family, great friends, a boyfriend who cared, basically all around a lot of love. She was probably a confident girl - she told the singer that she would date him "from september to december." Yet, even with all of this, she didn't see the good in life. No one knew though, but after she kills herself she "has nothing to hide" and now sees things that only come in dreams as she is dead. The relationship was so real and raw that the singer can never forget it, it could never be fake. Her family, friends, and all that loved and still love her will always think of her as 17 - thus, "she'll always be seventeen."

Rooney – If It Were Up To Me Lyrics 21 years ago
I think it's a good song that doesn't take much explanation. I just like the way the song is..it kind of reminds me of older songs, I don't know.

Rooney – I'm Shakin' Lyrics 21 years ago
I first heard this song right after reading an article about someone with an addiction to crystal meth and was like, wow this song describes all of the symptoms that were in the article (trouble sleeping, shaking, food doesn't have taste). So yeah, my thoughts are that it's about drug addiction.

Rooney – Blueside Lyrics 21 years ago
Great song, and I pretty much agree with the previous person. I think the second half of the song is about him choosing what to do with his life, and wondering if the buyer in the sky, or a God so to speak, will believe in his dreams and allow him to do these things. The last lines of the second verse, "And it's so hard for me to explain, what I will miss to myself" supports the dying theory, but I don't know how the rest of that fits into it..oh well. Still a great song, and I think I'll figure it out in time.
