The fact that Ben can convey such feeling, both lyrically and vocally, into a song absolutely blows me away, especially considering that this story is a ficitional one on his part. It's so well-written, which makes it one of my favorite Death Cab songs, if only for that reason. |

Usually I can't tolerate Christmas songs, but they did this cover so marvelously that I can't help but love it. Pretty simple & self-explanitory song, yet Ben still manages to squeeze in so much emotion to his voice as he sings. Loveliness. |

I think it's about someone who has endured many hard times or "defeats" and is now opening themselves up to a new perspective, or moving on in their life. By saying that "memory is an awful curse, but I won't mind", it seems that this person has accepted what has happened to them (whether good or bad) and is now continuing their life with a renewed sense of hope, optimism, or just plain acceptance of situations. |

"what do you think "i was a kaliedoscope" means."
Look at that line in context with the rest of the lines in that particular verse. It all makes sense. He's comparing himself and his vision to that of a kaleidoscope. |

Hearing the opening riffs of this song will always bring me back to this past summer (possibly because my favorite memory from that time was when I actually watched the band perform the song live in August). Perfect driving song. |

This song is absolute lyrical perfection, in my opinion. Ben Gibbard is an amazing writer. I think it's incredible how well he can convey these thoughts and emotions through writing and then balance them so gracefully with the accompanying music. Lovely, lovely song. I would try and choose a favorite part, but I don't think that would be possible. The entire thing is wonderful. |
