Ok, PE, i do apologize to you, Robert Plant did write the song, but after further looking into the history of Stairway, Robert Plant was acctually more obsessed with LOTR than all of Zep put together! First off: First word in the song is 'she' Second: the song is about a guy who is asleep and he is dreaming and it feels so real. Ok, look, dont arguee with me, this IS what the song is about. IT IS ABOUT LORD OF THE RINGS. For those of you who think LOTR started as a movie, wrong! It started in the 1920's as a story John Tolkien told his children. He was compelled to turn it into a book, namely 'There and Back Again', commonly known as 'The Hobbit'. This was published in the 1930's. People read it a wanted a sequel, so he made one. Yes thats right, one, but it was so long that they had to cut it into 6 books. Yes 6. Though book 1 and 2 are 'The Fellowship of the Ring', book 3 and 4 are 'The Two Towers' and books 5 and 6 are 'The Return of the King'. These were published in the 1940's - 1950's. Ok, on to the song. It IS about Galadriel. "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold" is Galadriel, the lady of the GOLDEN FOREST OF LOTHLORIEN! "When she gets there she knows, if the stars are all closed With a word she can get what she came for." means that ALL elven made doors are 'password protected' for example the gates to Moria. "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving" means her spirit is literally crying for leaving as ALL ELVES, with the exception of Arwen are leaving Middle Earth to go to the west, the Undying Lands. It is their home land and the elves are returning. "In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees" Galadriel has the power of forsight. She has the pool of reflection. If Frodo fails, rings of smoke will rise from the trees as the second age of the orcs will come. "And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter." The piper is Frodo and if he is aided on his quest, he will destory the dark lord Sauron and there will be a new day for the race of man. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now" is when the ring takes Boromir and she is saying it will work out. "Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on." Means there is more than one way into Mordor (The black gates and Cirith Ungol), but there is time to change which one he takes, which does happen as he was going to go through the Black Gates, but his path was changed and he went through Cirith Ungol. "Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him" refers to the ring always calling for its master and Frodo hears it. The piper in this part is Sauron calling for Frodo to join him. "And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll." Ah, the final verse. This is that as Frodo, Sam and gollum still go down the road, Galadriel stays and waits for the end. The lady of the forrest, who dresses in white, thus 'shines white light', and she is the lady of the golden woods. If Frodo listens to what Sam is trying to say, it will come to him at last that he is the only chance to destory the ring and Sauron and if he does, all is one and one is all as there is no longer good and evil, only one side remains, good. And to rock and not to roll, well that is dont let the ring drive him, stay set on the task and complete. There. Every line almost. This song, like a lot of their other songs IS about LOTR, and there is the proof. |
