| The Kidney Thieves – S+m (a Love Song) Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This song is my favorite Kidneythieves song and it speaks to me, probably because I know how it feels to have pleasure and pain tied together so that one is almost the other. Distant son, nova fucker Hit and run to another I always thought it was 'distant sun, nova fucker', as in the Sun. It means that while the real thing, the core is safely in the distance, you're screwing with all the things that are like it. Either meaning that you don't want to face the real thing and are fucking with what's not so that you don't have to deal with it, or screwing with them on your way, trying to find the real thing (but it's far away yet). Took from you, from me Lash and caress in between He's giving pleasure and pain in turn, continually. Whether by 'you' she means the person inflicting the pain or whether she means other victims, or whether she's bringing us listeners in by asking if we've felt it, I don't know. It could be any of the three or all three. Anyone else think they know? Damned, I'm tired. I haven't gotten much sleep lately (*%ing sites like this -.^) and I think it's catching up. I'll be back later to finish off my detailed and highly educated (*COUGH*) analysis ^.^ |

| Rasputina – Christian Soldiers Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The first time I heard this song I was like 'WTF?!?' and I immediately made my friend listen to it. After I actually listened to it once or twice more, I basically thought the same as concubine: priest fighting 'evil'. Except that I also thought that Melora's talking about how overboard medieval 'doctors' went with 'healing'. | |
| Rasputina – Dig Ophelia Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I've never read Hamlet, though I agree that's probably what it means. But before hearing of that connection I had my own suspicions. I've seen the song as different types of longing and temptation. Dig Ophelia consider it dug Flowers madness and polar bear rug Here's the water, just ankle deep high. Lay back and relax and look up at the sky. I always saw this as a descent into madness, and the fight against it. The singer is temptation, tempting the person to just relax and give in, and telling them that there's no point in fighting, the fight's already lost... Your eyes never close, your mind's not at rest, Lay back, get waterlogged Give us a kiss. Again, it's temptation singing to them, telling them they're working too hard, fighting too hard. I saw this more like the sirens of the ocean singing and calling sailors (or whoever else) to come and join them. Water spreads the small seed Water kills the tall weed. Ophelia. Basically, telling you that everything has two sides to it. Ophelia, to me, was either the person Melora was singing to or singing about (like, using as an example) Cut the stem and you'll see how you feel Floating orchids just ain't no big deal Never knowing's like knowing too much Tap the table, oh here's more bad luck. You might as well let go, just to see what happens. Are all the things in there really so bad? After all, if you don't experience it, it'll be just as bad as what you fear most will happen if you do experience it. And the last sentence, is telling you that anything can be bad, like the reference of people's need to knock on wood. |
