For some reason, i take a completely different perspective on the song than most others do (referring the song to Jesse's father being diagnosed with cancer, which im sure is the real meaning behind the song to begin with). Though the first time I heard the song, it did nothing but express the way i've been feeling the past couple of months... To me though, it's about a guy who is so in love with this girl, and that he would give the world to be with her -- though she doesn't feel the same way towards him. Such as in the lines... "My lungs are fresh and yours to keep Kept clean and they will let you breathe..." Meaning that he would truly give her anything just to be with him. . . showing what extent he would actually go to. Then after realizing she doesnt like him, the lines. . . "Is this the way a toy feels when its batteries run dry? I am the watch you always wear, but you forget to wind..." Because she just leads him on to thinking she might like him, but she's only trying to make him feel better, when in reality... its hurting him more than anything. I dont know, that probably makes no fucking sense to any of you... but atleast it does to me i guess, haha. Jesse is an amazing writer, and i think it kicks ass he is able to write songs that can have more than one meaning to people, and help them deal with their problems :) <33 Brand New. |
