Oasis – Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics 16 years ago
Well I believe Noel has no idea what the song means, which is fine. Sometime the best songs come from fragments of things you are thinking about or memories, they do not always have to fit the conventional package. The "revolution from my bed" lines come from Lennons "Bed in" probably, but, I have seen a LOT of interviews of Noel and there is a common thread. He has a complex about "not really working" but being rich, which manifests itself as his perceived laziness, so, a revolution from his bed, would be doing something big without the effort. Noel has said the" stand up beside the fireplace" lines are from his mother taking pictures of the family and telling them "take that look from off your face" For some mystical reason from the very first time I heard the chorus I thought Sally was the Sally from Sally Cinnamon? Dont ask me why, but I still think it. Maybe it's cause i seem to recall noel say that when he heard Sally Cinnamon for the first time, he knew he could write songs.
Who knows?
If it was obvious, it would be no fun.

Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics 19 years ago
I always thought this was a song about going though life, from being a kid trying to impress everyone, and sneering at authority, to being old when all you have is memorys and wisdom, but the wisdom is not accepted by the new generation who sneers at him, and so the cycle continues? Thats what i thought.
I did a cover of this song if you'd like to hear it its here http://warmgun.dmusic.com

The Beatles – You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Lyrics 21 years ago
Another of Lennon's that we wrote through the influence of Bob Dylan, and similar to John's "I'm A Loser." In his first line, he says, with his head in his hand, and his face turned toward the wall, is a perfect description of how Lennon was feeling when he wrote this song. The song itself deals with a relationship that has gone wrong, and John's feelings for a girl he lost. This song is also interesting for two reasons: First, it features only acoustic guitars, and second, it featured another musician on the flute solo. This musician's name is John Scott, an arranger as well, who was never mentioned in the credits on the album sleeve. Lennon wrote this song at his Kenwood home, and it was used in the film sequence when actress Eleanor Bron went to the house where The Beatles were staying to try to retrieve the ring. Also, this actress is the one whom it was thought Paul may have been referring to in his song, "Eleanor Rigby," yet I believe it was from the gravestone reference.

The Beatles – It Won't Be Long Lyrics 21 years ago
Written mostly by Lennon, this song was intended as a follow up to the success of "She Loves You," and the yeah yeah yeah chorus. Lennon wrote this as a echo of his own life, being lonely, waiting for the girl to return that walked out on him, to come back and make him happy again. It seems that many of Lennon's songs that dealt with broken relationships were not necessarily fueled by romances that didn't work out. In this youth he felt lonely and dejected. His father left him as a child, and in effect, he was dejected again when his mother turned him over to her sister, John's Aunt Mimi to raise him. Then, in 1958, his mother was killed when she was struck by an automobile. Lennon thought and rightfully so, that he lost his mother twice. It was recorded on July 30, 1963.

The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics 21 years ago
Lennon composition, came mostly from several newspaper articles in the Daily Mail. Paul contributed to this song in the section, "Woke up, got out of bed..." from an unfinished song he had been working on. Rather than complete the song, it's short verse was added here. Lennon's inspiration for the line "he blew his mind out in a car," came from the death of their Irish friend, Tara Browne. In truth, Browne did not kill himself as the song implies, but rather Browne was killed in a car accident on December 18, 1966. He had been driving his Lotus Elan on Redcliffe Gardens when a Volkswagen pulled out in front of him, causing him to swerve his car, striking a parked van. Browne died on the way to the hospital. In writing the song, John reflected on this tragedy, yet the phrase, "blew his mind out in a car," was in his mind when he was writing the verse. The details of the accident, such as he did not notice the traffic lights as well as a crowd appeared, were made up by Lennon. Although considered a turn-on song referring to drugs, it actually was a turn-on song, to the truth in the world.

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 21 years ago
Lennon, who got the idea from a gun magazine cover that read, "Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hands," also Lennon's original song title. The song dealt with three themes. The first was Lennon's indignation of the American firearms lobby; the second was a sort of rock 'n' roll history; and the last was imagery that conveyed Lennon's sexual passion for Yoko.
