I think.. this is about a guy who's just broken up with/fought with his girlfriend and goes on a bender. He ends up in a bar fight and maybe (this is only my impression from the video, haha) but crashes his bike or something- because of the "emergency stop" and "crossbar" reference. Then he's in the emergency room reflecting on the tatters of his relationship with his girlfriend, wondering where things went wrong- "Who said I lied to her?" Then "Stop me if you think you've heard this one before" is sort of tongue-in-cheek, since everyone HAS heard breakup stories like this before. |

I recently learned that this song was actually written for a movie soundtrack. I haven't seen it, but apparently it relates to a character who is dying. His mother gave him his badge, hence the line relating to it. |

I agree with Specialist... I think this song is about girls who completely define themselves by the guy that they're with. So the question becomes well, who are you, then? It's about someone who takes the backseat for their own life, which is really pretty sad. |
